Individual Doctoral Fellowships at Heidelberg University in Germany, 2018

The Heidelberg University is offering fellowships for individual doctoral training in the LGF-Programme.

Heidelberg University is a public research university in Heidelberg, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Founded in 1386 on the instruction of Pope Urban VI, Heidelberg is Germany’s oldest university and one of the world’s oldest surviving universities.

The candidate should have a very good command of English language. Therefore, the application should be written in English.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: April 30, 2018
  • Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing doctoral training at the University of Heidelberg
  • Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded to study the subjects offered by the university.
  • Scholarship Award:
    1,000 € per month basic fellowship
    110 € per month material and travel expenses
    250 € child care benefit for one child (if applicable)
    350 € child care benefit for more than one child (if applicable)
  • Number of Scholarships: Not Known
  • Scholarship can be taken in Germany

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries: German citizens are eligible to apply.
  • Entrance Requirements:
    Successfully completed the university degree (Masters level or equivalent)
    Admission as a doctoral candidate in the appropriate faculty at the University of Heidelberg
    Academic supervision by a professor or associate professor
    Outstanding qualifications and a scientific project that is expected to make a significant contribution to current research
    Employment during the receipt of the fellowship must be approved and must be related to the discipline of your doctoral studies. If you are employed by Heidelberg University, no overlap between the activities carried out as part of the fellowship and those of the employment is permitted.
  • English Language Requirements: The candidate should have a very good command of English language. Therefore, the application should be written in English.

Application Procedure:

If you are applying for the first time, please follow these steps:

Fill out and submit the online application form with the following attachments (in a single PDF file):

  • Outline of your doctoral project (max. 5 pages) and a bibliography
  • Schedule for completion of the project (max. 1 page)
  • Curriculum vitae in table form
  • Qualifying university degree and certificates (copy, generally Diplom or Master; in German or English)
  • Certificate of admission as a doctoral candidate to your faculty (copy)

Ask two university professors to each fill out and submit a report by the application deadline.
