IZA-BIGSSS-PhD Fellowships for Non-German Students in Germany, 2018

The new IZA-BIGSSS-Fellowships on Comparative Labour Market Research is now available for the year 2018. The program is fully operated by BIGSSS, granting all fellows unrestricted access to the resources of the graduate school.

BIGSSS integrates excellent areas of graduate education and research at the University of Bremen and Jacobs University into a synergetic inter-university institution designed to be an internationally competitive model of graduate education.

The language of instruction is English. In order to allow all of the fellows to engage in mutual discussions with other fellows and BIGSSS faculty and staff, English language proficiency at the level of C1 is required. PhD theses are typically written in English.

Scholarship Description: 

  • Application Deadline: April 15, 2018
  • Course Level: Fellowships are available to pursue PhD programme.
  • Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded on comparative Labour Market Research.
  • Scholarship Award: Admitted fellows of the BIGSSS IZA Regular PhD will be offered a limited-time work contract (42 months, 65% TV-L 13), contingent on successful completion of all curricular requirements of the program. To support its PhD fellows, the fellowship also provides funds for conducting, presenting and publishing research.
  • Nationality: German, as well as Non-German students, are eligible to apply.
  • Number of Scholarships: Numbers not given
  • Scholarship can be taken in Germany

Entrance Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:

BIGSSS seeks candidates with strong academic abilities and a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Political Science, Sociology, Economics, or Psychology with a research interest in Comparative Labour Market Research. Applicants with a degree in related social science disciplines are also welcome. More information, as well as lists of required application materials, can be found at www.bigsss-bremen.de. Non-German students are strongly encouraged to apply. BIGSSS strives to increase the share of women in the university and hence also strongly encourages women to apply. Applicants with disabilities who are equally qualified will be favoured. Applications must be submitted online under “Admissions” at www.bigsss-bremen.de. The call is open until April 15th, 2018. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
