The Alwaleed Centre for the Study of Islam in the Contemporary World at the University of Edinburgh is inviting applications for PhD Studentships in Islamic Studies for a September 2018 start. UK or EU and International students are eligible to apply for this studentship.
The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582, is the sixth oldest university in the English-speaking world and one of Scotland’s ancient universities.
University accepts all of the English language qualifications for entry to the University, including IELTS qualifications from any IELTS test centre.
Scholarship Description:
- Application Deadline: April 12, 2018
- Course Level: Studentships are available to pursue Ph.D. programme.
- Study Subject: Studentships are awarded in Islamic Studies: Islamic Civilisation or Muslims in Europe.
- Scholarship Award: Each studentship will cover the required fee to the University of Edinburgh (either UK/EU or international), a living allowance of £14,553for 2018-19 (increasing in-line with Research Council UK rates thereafter) and a yearly research budget of £1000.
- Nationality: UK or EU and International students
- Number of Scholarships: Up to two studentships are available.

Entrance Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship you must meet the following requirements:
Essential qualifications:
- An undergraduate and normally a Masters degree in a relevant subject
- Proven research skills
- Ability to undertake research which may involve both the study of texts and be engaging with individuals and communities
- Ability to work in a team
- Diplomacy, including religious, cultural and political sensitivity
- The ability to work to deadlines
- A willingness to be flexible and work non-standard hours, if required
Desirable qualifications
- Experience in conducting and explaining research to a wide variety of audiences, both within and beyond a university context.
- Knowledge of a relevant language (e.g. Arabic, Persian)
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Experience in designing material for websites
- Experience of working with the media
