Eligibility:

PhD degree in polymer science and engineering or similar areas. The project is experimental in nature and includes materials preparation, electron microscopy, spectroscopic methods, mechanical property studies and fire retardance evaluation. Experience in these areas will be regarded as advantageous when evaluating applicants. The candidate should be creative, be able to work independently, critically analyze information and have previous laboratory experience. You should have good communication and cooperation skills.

Scholarship Description:

Polymer composites are widely used in applications such as thermal insulation, interior structures for transport applications etc. Fire retardancy is an important issue, in particular when preserved toughness characteristics are demanded. Inorganic nanoparticles can be combined with polymers in order to address this issue and create new materials.The current position will be placed in a larger, SSF-funded research project where the overall goal is to identify eco-friendly and scalable processes to manufacture light-weight, fireproof foams and composite materials. The goal is to develop a nano-cellulose based material combined with inorganic components for the purpose of improved properties.The sub-project includes processing, structure and performance evaluation of novel nanocomposites. You will work closely with researchers in other parts of the project.
