The project of the PhD student will focus on the factors behind the mitochondrial biogenesis (translation and assembly of OXPHOS complexes) and the goal is to identify novel pathogenic mechanisms behind mitochondrial disorders of childhood. The student will apply for admission to the University of Oulu Graduate School at the beginning of the project and the aim is to complete the PhD thesis within four years. The project is part of a research consortium studying pediatric mitochondrial disorders in Northern Finland initiated and led by Adjunct Professor Johanna Uusimaa, MD, PhD. The successful candidate should preferably have Master’s degree in biochemistry or biology. Some experience in mammalian cell culture and in basic cell and molecular biology techniques is appreciated.
