Ross Bolton Memorial Funk Guitar Scholarship in USA, 2013


Ross Bolton Memorial Funk Guitar Scholarship is available for students enrolled in the AA Guitar performance program only, and may not be transferred to “non- performance program” emphases (Audio Engineering, Music Business, Independent Artist, Guitar Craft, or Film) within an AA degree. USA and International applicants are eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must enroll in Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program at MI. Scholarship covers tuition credit. The scholarship will be awarded in fall 2013 for full length of award period. Application must be submitted via post by October 25, 2013.

Course Level: This scholarship is for pursuing Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program.

Eligibility:

-Currently enrolled AA (Guitar) students only.

-US citizen and non-US citizen.

-Awardees must maintain enrollment at 12 units (full time status) during the full length of award period.

-Failure to maintain enrollment and satisfactory academic progress in AA (Guitar) program for the full duration of the scholarship may result in withdrawal of the award.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: USA and non US citizens are eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The Ross Bolton Memorial Funk Guitar Scholarship was created to honor the memory, exceptional talent and artistic career of longtime MI Guitar Program (GIT) faculty (1986-2013) and alumni (MI class of 1980) Ross Bolton; and is provided to encourage and support the educational growth of a currently enrolled Guitar Program student. The scholarship will be awarded in fall 2013 to a current student (US or non-US citizens) enrolled in the Associate of Arts in Performance (Guitar) program who demonstrates overall outstanding musicianship, and the potential for developing their own individual sound or unique voice on the instrument in the Funk and/or R&B style. The scholarship is also designed to support students who are financially challenged, and are able to clearly articulate the basis of their financial need.

What does it cover? $1,000.00 tuition credit ($1,000.00 for the next contiguous quarter of the program as long as the recipient maintains satisfactory progress).

How to Apply: The mode of applying by post. Complete a Ross Bolton Memorial Funk Guitar Scholarship application (see application download instructions below). Provide the completed application form including:

•VIDEO RECORDING: Submit a video recording (DVD format only) of you performing three

(3) songs in the Funk and/or R&B genre on the electric and/or acoustic guitar. Applicants are required to include two

(2) live ensemble (band or duo) performances, and one

(1) guitar solo performance.

•SHORT ESSAY: An essay (maximum of 300 words) clearly explaining your specific financial challenges and why you should be considered for the scholarship.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The deadline for applications is October 25, 2013.
