Scholarship Description: Symbiotic microbes play important roles for nutrition and reproduction of multicellular organisms, but their role in the defense against parasites is less well understood. By combining targeted manipulation of a pest insect’s symbiotic and parasitic microbiota with fitness assays, high-throughput transcriptome sequencing, and knock-down of target genes by RNAi, we aim to elucidate the molecular basis of the multipartite interactions between an insect, its symbionts and parasites. Friedrich Schiller University Jena is an equal opportunity employer.
