PhD Position in Galaxy and Black Hole Astrophysics in Switzerland, 2014

The Institute for Astronomy of the ETH Zurich invites applications for one PhD position in the research group of Prof. Schawinski to work on active galaxies, galaxy-black hole co-evolution, as well as citizen science. Scholarship Description: The Institute for Astronomy of the ETH Zurich invites applications for one PhD position in the research group of Prof. Schawinski to work on active galaxies, galaxy-black hole co-evolution, as well as citizen science. The thesis project focuses on understanding black hole feedback: how do different accretion states of black holes interact with their host galaxy by injecting energy in various forms. The project will use multi-wavelength data to trace black hole activity, stellar populations and gas in nearby and distant galaxies. The salary scale is attractive and there is substantial support for travel (observing, conference, collaboration), computing and publication charges.
