Scholarship Description: The “Attoscience and ultrafast optics” research group, led by Prof. Jens Biegert, is offering a postdoctoral position to a well-qualified, highly motivated and dynamic young scientist who wishes to enhance his/her scientific career in the field of Attosecond Science and Strong Field Physics in a friendly and stimulating environment. Atto second strong field physics with electric field controlled mid-IR light enables HHG into the water window range and toward keV photon energies, yields X-ray durations beyond the atomic unit of time, or permits scrutinizing electron wave packet dynamics in the deep tunneling regime.
Our experimental research program aims at exploring the underlying attosecond recollision dynamics with the first few-cycle and CEP-stable high-repetition rate mid-IR source (3-6 cycle pulses, 160 kHz, 0.2 PW/cm2, 3200 nm) in combination with a reaction microscope (COLTRIMS). The experimental work builds on first results, showing unexpected electron dynamics, and will involve investigations into i) atomic recollision dynamics, ii) non-aligned and aligned molecular species, towards iii) attosecond self-diffraction imaging of molecular structure. This research will be carried out in the framework of collaborative research and well-known theory groups. The success of this project will have significance in fields of attoscience, molecular imaging, and atomic/molecular physics. The applicant will join the “Attoscience and ultrafast optics” group which consists of a highly motivated and dynamic young team of scientists with state-of-the art laboratories. Our experimental environment includes several cutting edge few-cycle intense light sources, with special emphasis on wavelengths beyond 800 nm and CEP stability, an attosecond beam line and capabilities for ion and electron coincidence measurements. We are embedded in several prominent national, European and international networks and collaborations which ensures a vibrant and stimulating research environment. Our general research is concerned with a variety of topics ranging from ultrafast laser physics to extreme nonlinear optics and strong field atomic and molecular physics.
