Scholarship Description: The Canada-China Scholars’ Exchange Program (CCSEP) is based on reciprocal agreements between the Government of Canada and the Government of the People’s Republic of China. Established in 1973, the CCSEP was the result of an undertaking by then Chinese premier Zhou Enlai and Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau. Over the past 38 years, more than 900 scholars have participated in the program. Canadian scholars have brought new perspectives to their host country and acquired enhanced knowledge and understanding of China. The original Memorandum of Understanding was modified in 2012 to allow for a wider range of applicants. A number of short-term, non-degree-seeking awards are offered to Canadian academics, students and professionals who wish to study and/or do research at participating Chinese institutions.
