University of Oslo is inviting applications for PhD Research Fellowship in Hydrology and Cryospheric Sciences. Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Hydrology, Meteorology, or a related discipline; or, a M.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics or Computer Sciences with experience in the earth sciences. Eligibility: –Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in Hydrology, Meteorology, or a related discipline; or, a M.Sc. in Physics, Mathematics or Computer Sciences with experience in the earth sciences. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mathematics and scientific computing and experience with Python and/or C++ and knowledge of large dataanalysis and visualization tools.

Creativity and innovation are valued as is a demonstrated high working capacity, passion for research, and self-motivation. The candidate should expect to work in a highly collaborative environment and participate in a wide array of activities related to land-atmosphere processes with an emphasis on hydrology in the cryosphere and cold environments.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree and peer-review publication. The fellowship requires admission to UNIVERSITY OF OSLO the research training program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline (made out in cooperation with Prof. Dr. J.F. Burkhart), is to be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission is to be approved within three months.

Scholarship Description: The specific topic of the Thesis will be developed based on the successful applicants own interests and expertise, however it is expected to fall within the research domain of snow hydrology and hydrologic modeling and to contribute increased capability of modeling snow distribution and to develop multiobjective calibration targets for hydrologic modeling in snow dominated catchments.
