The Faculty of Social Sciences is inviting applications to fill a full-time vacancy in the Department of Sociology for a doctoral student in the area of  Sociology of Safety and Risk. Applicant will hold a master degree in social sciences or an interdisciplinary master degree in environmental or safety sciences with a demonstrable affiliation with social sciences. University will offer gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.167,88 to € 2.486,53 and a dynamic and stimulating work environment. The application deadline is September 14, 2015.

Study Subject(s): Scholarship is awarded in the field of Sociology, Environmental Sciences or Safety Sciences (with sociology as core discipline).
Course Level: Scholarship is available for pursuing doctoral thesis in the Department of Sociology.

Eligibility:
-Applicant hold a master degree in social sciences or an interdisciplinary master degree in environmental or safety sciences with a demonstrable affiliation with social sciences;
– Applicant can submit outstanding academic results (i.e. at least the mention ‘distinction’ on your 2nd cycle degree);
-Also students in the final year of their degree can apply;
– Applicant’s academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy;
– Applicant is quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative;
-Applicant have excellent analytical skills and can demonstrate good competence in qualitative social -sciences research methods;
– Applicant have a special interest in environmental and technological risk studies and  in Science and Technology Studies (STS);
– Applicant is fluent in English, Dutch and/or French, and are prepared to take additional refresher courses if necessary;
– Applicant have excellent English academic writing skills and above average writing skills in Dutch and French (or are prepared to take further training courses if necessary);
– Applicant is prepared to travel (within Europe) and work abroad (France) for a limited period.

Scholarship Description: The Faculty of Social Sciences is seeking to fill a full-time vacancy in the Department of Sociology for a doctoral student in the area of  Sociology of Safety and Risk

Duration of award(s): A doctoral scholarship for a period of 12 months, with the possibility of an extension up to a total of 48 months after positive evaluation;

What does it cover? University will offer gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.167,88 to € 2.486,53 and a dynamic and stimulating work environment.

How to Apply: Applications should be submitted via e-mail. The following documents must be submitted with the application:
-A CV containing at least the following information: education history and grade report (documenting all courses and exams taken at to obtain your master degree), previous work experience (if applicable), language skills, knowledge of specific software applications; contact details where you could be reached on September 15 and 16; any publications you may have as author or co-author (listed as: articles in refereed journals, books of book chapters, other articles and conference papers, research reports);
-A motivation letter;
-One or two papers, degree projects or other relevant works as proof of your ability to formulate, delimit and analyse research tasks and present research results;
-A project draft stating the applicant’s research interest(s) and planned focus area of his/her doctoral thesis. In addition, the project draft must demonstrate familiarity with previous and current research as well as an ability to formulate a pertinent research question and define specific scientific problems. Maximum 2000 words – in English;
