University of Sussex of United Kingdom is offering two PhD Scholarships in SPRU Government policies and finance for energy innovation. The scholarship is open for UK, Europe (Non-UK) applicants. These two PhD studentships will investigate the relationship between innovation in energy technologies and systems, finance and government policies. Fee waiver for UK/EU applicants, plus stipend of £14,052 per annum for a maximum of three years for UK applicants only. Successful applicants will be notified week commencing 7 September 2015. Eligibility: Successful candidates will be highly motivated and have a good first degree in a relevant subject, and a masters degree in a social science subject, including advanced research methods training. Candidates will have a particular interest in energy system transitions, and good knowledge about energy systems and policies in the UK. They must be comfortable working in an interdisciplinary and policy engaged research environment.

Scholarship Description: These two PhD studentships will investigate the relationship between innovation in energy technologies and systems, finance and government policies. Applicants are invited to propose research topics that fit with this overall theme. Examples could include comparisons of public institutions that provide support for energy R, D&D in the UK and other countries; or research on the relationship between different types of financing institutions and the rate and direction of innovation in the clean energy sector. Both studentships are funded as part of the UK Energy Research Centre (UKERC), which was established by the UK Research Councils in 2004. UKERC carries out world-class, interdisciplinary research into sustainable future energy systems from a whole systems perspective. UKERC acts as a focal point of UK energy research, and informs strategies of public,private and third sector organisations. The studentships are based at SPRU, University of Sussex. SPRU is internationally recognised as a leading centre of research on science, technology and innovation policy. They will also be part of the ESRC Doctoral Training Centre at Sussex.
