Copenhagen Business School is awarding a PhD scholarship within the overall field of Business and Politics–with a focus on the political economy of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in China. The PhD student will be enrolled at PhD School in Organization and Management Studies (OMS). An educational background in the social sciences is necessary. A PhD scholarship runs for a period of 3 years, and includes teaching obligations equivalent of 1?2 year’s work (840 work hours). The scholarship requires the student to spend a minimum of 12 months of their PhD in a research institution in China. The application deadline is 15th of September 2015.

Scholarship Description: Copenhagen Business School invites applications for a vacant PhD scholarship within the overall field of Business and Politics – with a focus on the political economy of corporate social responsibility (CSR) in China. The recruited PhD candidate will be attached to the Department of Business and Politics. The department emphasizes cross-national research on states, economies, corporations, and other organizations that are involved in the governance of political and economic matters. The department is open to research on political science and sociology and a variety of theoretical and methodological approaches. The faculty of the department primarily teaches within the following degree programs: Bachelor in Business Administration and Sociology and Bachelor/MSc in International Business and Politics. In addition, the successful applicant would contribute to the teaching of the MSc in Public Administration and Social Development that takes place in the context of the Sino-Danish Center for Education and Research (SDC) in Beijing, China.

Duration of award(s): Scholarship is awarded for a three year PhD program. The scholarship requires the student to spend a minimum of 12 months of their PhD in a research institution in China.
What does it cover? The scholarships are fully salaried positions, according to the national Danish collective agreement. The scholarship includes the tuition fees, office space, travel grants plus a salary, currently starting with per month app. DKK 23.770 (app. 3,160 euro) up to DKK 28.964 (app. 3,860 euro) depending on seniority, plus a pension contribution totaling 17,1 % of 85 per cent of the base salary.
Selection Criteria: The Department will give priority to applicants with a keen interest on CSR in China and beyond with a broad political/social science understanding of CSR activities. A committee of experts in the field in question will assess the applications. The assessment of the applicants will be based on the quality and relevance of the project, including an evaluation of the applicant’s ability to accomplish it. Following this assessment, the management of the department will select the winners of the scholarships.

How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online. The application must include a 5 page project description. This research proposal should contain a presentation of an original research question, a description of the initial theoretical framework and methodology, a presentation of the suggested empirical material as well as a work-plan. In addition to the research proposal, the application must include copies of a Master’s degree certificate or other certificates of a corresponding level, brief curriculum vitae (CV), a list of papers and publications, and one copy of a selected written work (e.g. Master’s thesis). Applicants must enclose documentation for English language skills if not mother tongue.
