Fulbright TechImpact Research Awards for Irish Applicants in USA, 2016-2017

Applications are invited for Fulbright TechImpact Research Awards from Irish citizens or E.U. citizens resident in the Republic of Ireland for three or more years. These awards are available to complete short-term, non-commercial projects and research in the U.S. for a period of two weeks to three months. They are designed to respond to the potential and pace of ICT. The application deadline is 30th October 2015. Preference will be given to candidates who have received their PhD since 2010 and candidates in the areas of education, mobile technology and digital arts, humanities, and culture.

Eligibility: Fulbright TechImpact Scholar applicants must:
-possess a PhD or 3-5 more years’ relevant professional experience. Preference will be given to early career researchers with PhD conferred since 2010 or a professional with 3-5 years’ experience in relevant fields
-be an Irish citizen, or E.U. citizen living in the Republic of Ireland for the past three years not
-be a dual U.S.-Irish citizen, green card holder, or currently living in the U.S.
-not already have extensive experiences of studying or living in the U.S.

Scholarship Open for International Students: These research awards are available for Irish citizens or E.U. citizens resident in the Republic of Ireland.

Scholarship Description: Fulbright TechImpact Scholar Awards are research grants for Irish citizens or E.U. citizens resident in the Republic of Ireland for three or more years to complete short-term, non-commercial projects and research in the U.S. for a period of two weeks to three months. They are designed to respond to the potential and pace of ICT.The Fulbright Commission is interested in supporting candidates across all disciplines who are exploring how technology contributes to a larger social value. Preference will be given to candidates who have received their PhD since 2010 and candidates in the areas of education, mobile technology and digital arts, humanities, and culture.

Duration of award(s): The awards are available for a period of two weeks to three months.

What does it cover? Fulbright TechImpact Scholar Awards comprise:
-A monetary award to support travel, living, and related expenses
-Accident and emergency insurance
-Cultural / orientation programming
-J-1 visa administration. Awardees must comply with the two-year Home-Country Residency Requirement associated with the J-1 visa. Awardees will not be eligible for a U.S. residency or work visa until they have fulfilled the J-1 visa two-year home residency requirement.

Selection Criteria: In addition of the above eligibility criteria, applicants must demonstrate academic / professional and personal excellence, the capacity to transform and be transformed, that a Fulbright TechImpact Scholar Award will be a pivotal point in their research / career trajectory, a strong rationale for going to the United States, a robust program of lecturing, strong leadership skills or potential, and  an understanding and commitment to the ethos of being a Fulbrighter.

How to Apply: Please email awards-at-fulbright.ie to indicate your interest in applying as soon as the application period opens. In your email please state:
–Your full name as it appears on your passport
–Area of research
–Home Institution
–Where you intend to research
–How long you intend to be in the US. The allowable period for is 2 weeks up to 3 months between July 2015–August 2016. The possibility of repeat visits that do not aggregate to more than three months may be considered provided there is a robust justification and program of work for return visits.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is 30th October 2015.
