KU Leuven is offering PhD Fellowship for Belgian citizens. Successful applicants will work on research project with interest in the molecular mechanism responsible for the tolerogenic imprinting of intestinal immune cells. Eligible applicant has a good background in basic sciences and interest in Immunology and is willing to learn and adopt a variety of techniques of biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology and advance-microscopy. University offers a doctoral position for 4 years in a stimulating scientific environment. The application deadline is 30 September 2015.

Scholarship Description: Lab (lab of Mucosal Immunology) is mainly interested in the molecular mechanism responsible for the tolerogenic imprinting of intestinal immune cells crucial to preserve intestinal immune tolerance and prevent chronic inflammatory pathology of the gastrointestinal tract. They are in the Department of Clinical and Experimental Medicine at the Translational Research Center for Gastrointestinal Disorders (TARGID), KU Leuven. TARGID is a leading centre for gastrointestinal research in the Europe. TARGID aims to provide insight in physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms in order to identify new targets ultimately leading to better therapies for gastrointestinal disorders such as functional and inflammatory bowel diseases. To this end, pre-clinical and clinical expertise is combined with state of the art technology to provide top quality research and to create a stimulating setting for bidirectional interaction between basic and clinical researchers. This approach allows fast translation of discoveries from bench to bedside with improvement of patient care as ultimate goal.

Duration of award(s): Fellowship is awarded for the duration of 4 years.
