PhD positions are available at the U Duisburg Essen in the area of first principles modelling of novel materials relevant for electronics, spintronics and energy conversion applications. PhD positions are open for highly qualified and motivated individuals with Master of Science degree in physics, materials science or chemistry. Evaluation of candidates will start immediately and continue until the position is filled.

Eligibility: University invite applications from highly qualified and motivated individuals with Master of Science degree in physics, materials science or chemistry. Prior experience with density functional theory methods is desirable, experience with many body techniques such as GW or DMFT and strong computer programming skills will be an advantage. Further requirements include good written and oral communication skills in English, ability to work independently and to cooperate with both theoretical and experimental partners. The Faculty of Physics of the U Duisburg Essen has strong tradition in condensed matter theory and experiment, magnetism and surface science. The campus is located in a green residential area of Duisburg, North Rhine Westfalia, in proximity to further big cities, e.g. Düsseldorf, Essen and Cologne.

Scholarship Open for International Students: German applicants are eligible to apply for these positions.

Scholarship Description: PhD positions are available at the U Duisburg Essen in the area of first principles modelling of novel materials relevant for electronics, spintronics and energy conversion applications. Main focus of research is the investigation of anode materials for the photoelectrocatalytic water splitting, thermoelectric materials, as well interface induced electronic and magnetic phenomena in oxide heterostructures. The research will involve intense collaborations in the framework of SPP1613 and other collaborative research programs.
