University of Sussex is inviting applications for PhD Studentship in Nonlinear Equations in Quantum Chemistry. Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a UK Bachelor degree in Mathematics at first or upper second class, and/or a UK Master’s degree in Mathematics, or equivalent non-UK qualifications. A high standard of written and spoken English is essential. Total offer is of £14057 per annum tax-free bursary and waiver of UK/EU fees each year for 3.5 years. Full-time study. The application deadline is 30 September 2015.

Study Subject(s): Studentship is provided in in Nonlinear Equations in Quantum Chemistry at the University of Sussex.
Course Level: Studentship is available for pursuing PhD degree level at University of Sussex.
Scholarship Provider: University of Sussex,  UK
Scholarship can be taken at: UK

Eligibility: –Applicants must hold, or expect to hold, a UK Bachelor degree in Mathematics at first or upper second class, and/or a UK Master’s degree in Mathematics, or equivalent non-UK qualifications. A high standard of written and spoken English is essential.
-Candidates with background knowledge of partial differential equations, mathematical analysis, and quantum physics, are preferred.
-The studentship is open to UK and EU resident students.
-Overseas (ex-EU) students may also apply, but applicants should note that the award waives the fees at UK/EU rates only, of £4068 per year. Due to UK government requirements, Overseas students pay higher fees of £14450 per year, so additional fees of £10382 per year will be required. We regret we are unable to fund the additional fees ourselves.

Scholarship Open for International Students: UK/EU and International Students can apply for the studentship.

Scholarship Description: The research project addresses the mathematical analysis of nonlinear partial differential equations arising in electronic structure models of quantum chemistry and, in particular, models in the presence of an external magnetic field. The objective is to identity, explore and develop relevant links between the various variational methods, with a view to providing a more integrated approach to their use in nonlinear partial differential equations and initiating new areas of application within quantum chemistry, with possible use in numerical studies.
