University of Oslo is inviting applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Neuroscience/Neuroinformatics. Looking for a highly motivated and competent researcher holding a PhD or equivalent who enjoys working in an international and interactive environment. The successful candidate should have a solid background in neuroscience (preferably from subfields neuroanatomy, neuroinformatics, neuroimaging, or neuropathology). Eligibility: Looking for a highly motivated and competent researcher holding a PhD or equivalent who enjoys working in an international and interactive environment. The successful candidate should have a solid background in neuroscience (preferably from subfields neuroanatomy, neuroinformatics, neuroimaging, or neuropathology). Candidates with prior experience from basic research focused on neurodegenerative diseases including histological / neuropathological analyses and use of 2-D and 3-D image registration methods and quantitative histological methods will be preferred. Experience with data management, image processing and stereological methods is an advantage. In assessing the applications, special emphasis will be placed on the relevance of the candidate’s background, with regard to research field and research methods, as well as personal prerequisites to carry out the project. The assumed academic and personal ability of the candidate to complete the project within the given time frame will also be considered. Short-listed applicants may be invited for an interview at the University of Oslo or by teleconference. Requirements:
Applicants should have a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD
-The successful applicant must speak and write English fluently
-Good technological skills and experience with advanced technical (imaging) equipment are required
-Experience with neuroanatomical analyses and image processing is required
-The candidate must be capable of taking initiatives and work independently
-Emphasis will be attributed to team-working, communication and individual suitability for the project

Scholarship Description: One position as postdoctoral fellow is available at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, Department of Molecular Medicine, for two years with possibility for extension. The Institute of Basic Medical Sciences consists of academic departments and units that pursue research and education within basic medical science. The institute has approximately 340 employees and is located in the Domus Medica. The position is associated with the Neural Systems Laboratory of professor Jan G. Bjaalie on an EU-JPND project aiming to map the brain wide distribution of pathogenic protein aggregates in genetic disease models and should be filled as soon as possible. The Neural Systems Laboratory employs computational methods, neuroimaging, and neuroinformatics to develop and implement new technologies for analysis of brain architecture, connectivity, and gene and molecular distributions at the level of regions and whole brain.

Duration of award(s): Fellowship is offered for two years.
