-The applicant must hold a master degree (or equivalent) within geology, mineralogy or geochemistry and must have excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Norwegian and international candidates can apply for this doctoral research fellowship.
Scholarship Description: The PhD project will establish genetic parameters controlling the abundance and diversity of the rare metal mineralization of the Sveconorwegian pegmatite province in southern Norway. These parameters include crystallization age of the pegmatites, the pressure-temperature conditions during pegmatite formation and the chemistry of the host rocks. The main objective is to establish the sequence of pegmatite-forming stages during the Sveconorwegian orogenesis and their relation to lithotectonic domains, metamorphic events and felsic magmatism. This will be achieved by dating of pegmatites and spatially related granite plutons, isotope studies, determination of bulk chemistries of pegmatites and host rocks and microthermometric and compositional studies of fluid and melt inclusions hosted in pegmatite-forming minerals. Finally, the project will combine the mineralogy, chemistry and isotope characteristics of pegmatites to explore the origin of melts controlling the rare element mineralogy of Sveconorwegian pegmatites through time and space.
Duration of award(s): A 4 year PhD position (SKO 1017) is available at Natural History Museum (NHM), University of Oslo.
What does it cover? Total offer is of:
-Salary based on salary level 50-55 (NOK 430 500 – 467 700 per year )
