The International Max Planck Research School for Ultrafast Imaging & Structural Dynamics (IMPRS-UFAST) is now accepting applications for PhD Fellowships. Fellows must commit to a pursuing a research programme in Ultrafast Physics and Chemistry.

The Max Planck Society is committed to employing more handicapped individuals and especially encourages them to apply. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in those areas where they are underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply

The International Max Planck Research School for Ultrafast Imaging & Structural Dynamics (IMPRS-UFAST) is a joint venture of the Max Planck Institute for the Structure and Dynamics of Matter, Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY), the Universität Hamburg and the European XFEL GmbH

An English language test (TOEFL, IELTS) is normally required for the purpose of application. This is to ensure that students will be able to successfully conduct their PhD studies. If applicant can convincingly demonstrate that they are fluent in spoken and written English, this requirement may be waived.

Course Level: Fellowships are offered for pursuing PhD research programme at IMPRS UFAST.

Study Subject: Fellowships are available in the field of Ultrafast Physics and Chemistry.

List of Subjects: The following projects are available under the current call for applications:
Light control of superconductivity in organic molecular solids (Andrea Cavalleri), Stabilization of light-induced high-temperature superconducting phases (Andrea Cavalleri), Non-equilibrium control of complex solids by nonlinear phononics (Andrea Cavalleri), Ultrafast switching of ferroelectrics (Andrea Cavalleri), Dissipation and decoherence in strong light-matter coupling (Angel Rubio), Light-induced imprinting of correlations onto matter (Angel Rubio), Dynamical properties of solids under strong and ultrafast laser pulses (Angel Rubio), Ultrafast response of solids controlled by lasers in resonance with vibrational modes (Michael Sentef), Foundations of Quantum-Electrodynamical Density-Functional Theory (Angel Rubio), Toward the Ultimate Limits of Biodiagnostics: Desorption by Impulsive Vibrational Excitation Mass Spectrometry (DIVE-MS) (Dwayne Miller), Synthesis of novel 2D materials for time resolved studies (Dwayne Miller), Ultrafast electron diffraction with electrostatically compressed bunches (Dwayne Miller), Ultrafast electron pixel detectors (Dwayne Miller), Femtosecond transient absorption and multidimensional UV-spectroscopies of DNA and RNA (Dwayne Miller), Few-femtosecond spectroscopy of phase transitions in complex materials, Attosecond spectroscopy at X-ray free-electron lasers and THz Driven Free-Electron X-ray Sources
