Birkbeck University of London offers upto 15 research studentships for Home/EU and international students which can help in form of fee waivers. Studentships are available for M.Phil/ PhD students.

The aim of the School of Arts Research Studentships is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality.

For most MPhil/PhD degrees, we require the equivalent of a good UK Master’s degree. Applicants must also meet our minimum English language entry requirements. IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each of the sub tests): Please note we only accept the Academic, not the General Test.

Course Level: The School of Arts also offers up to 15 research studentships for M.Phil/ PhD students that take the form of fee waivers.

Study Subject: Studentships are tenable in all subject areas within the departments of English & Humanities, History of Art, Film, Media & Cultural Studies and Cultures and Languages or via the Arts and Humanities Doctoral Programme.

Scholarship Award: The School of Arts also offers up to 15 research studentships for M.Phil/ PhD students that take the form of fee waivers (full or partial fee awards for Home/EU/International students, part-time or full-time) across the School, for outstanding candidates.

Eligibility: The School of Arts also offers up to 15 research studentships for M.Phil/ PhD students.
-Application is open to all students applying to undertake postgraduate research in the departments of English & Humanities, History of Art, Film, Media & Cultural Studies andCultures and Languages or via the Arts and Humanities Doctoral Programme.

Research Students currently in their first year (full-time), or first and second year (part-time), at Birkbeck may apply, although preference may be given to new students. Home/EU students applying for Birkbeck Postgraduate Research Scholarship funding will automatically be considered for ARS awards.

Nationality: Home/EU and international students can apply for these studentships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Student must have completed postgraduate degree level.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements: IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each of the sub tests): Please note we only accept the Academic, not the General Test.

How to Apply: Applicants for funding should also ensure that they have completed a programme application form; the admissions process is separate to the process for the awarding of funding. Please note that in order to apply for funding you must also complete an online application for an M.Phil/PhD place in the School of Arts, Birkbeck. Your programme application must be submitted either before (strongly encouraged) or at the same time as applying for funding.
