Applications are invited for SIDS Fellowships at the UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education. Fellowships are available to improve water management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
In 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and UNESCO-IHE jointly launched “Strengthening Small Island Developing States’ capacity in the water sector to cope with the effects of climate change”. The project aims to strengthen the capacity of professionals and decision makers to improve water management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS), to better address future challenges such as coping with the effects of climate change.
UNESCO-IHE will provide at least 20 key water professionals with MSc level education on relevant topics for the SIDS, starting in 2016. The 18 month MSc programmes include 12-month taught education in Delft, the Netherlands and 6-month field based research, to be conducted on specific problems in the home country of the participant.
All of UNESCO-IHE’s educational programmes and courses are taught in English. Thus it is vital that students and participants have an adequate level of spoken and written English.
Course Level: Fellowships are offered for masters programme and short courses.
Study Subject: Fellowships are available to improve water management in Small Island Developing States (SIDS).
Scholarship Award: Discounts on the tuition fee of online and short courses apply to the following:
-30% for UNESCO-IHE alumni
-10% for UN family staff members
-10% for groups of 5 or more (provided that the course starts at the same time and a group application has been sent)

Eligibility: Candidates should have a Bachelor of Science degree, at least two years years of working experience and a good command of the English language, both written and spoken.
Nationality: Candidates from eligible SIDS countries are eligible to apply.
List of Countries: The AIMS (Africa, Indian Ocean, Mediterranean and South China Sea), Cabo Verde, Comoros, Guinea-Bissau, Maldives, Mauritius, Sao Tome and Principe, Seychelles, The Caribbean (Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname), The Pacific (Fiji, Kiribati Marshall Islands, Federated State of Micronesia, Cook Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu)
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicant should at least have a Bachelor Degree in a relevant field of study, some years of working experience and a good command of the English language.
Test Requirement: No
English Language Requirement: The following are the minimum English test required for admission: IELTS, TOEFL, Cambridge ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), TELC (The European Language Certificates) and Michigan (Cambridge Michigan)
Institute strongly advise applicants to have English language levels equivalent to IELTS 6.5 or higher before the start of their study at UNESCO-IHE. Although the minimum entry level of English is only IELTS 6.0 (or equivalent), applicants are expected to further improve their English language skills in the period between admission and enrolment.

-Certified copies of degrees/diplomas.
-Certified copies of academic transcripts. Authenticated or certified copies are copies with an official stamp to verify that the copies are true copies of original documents. This official stamp may be from one of the following: a solicitor/notary, the educational institution from where the student gained the diplomas or the local council/local authority/local government office.
-Two reference letters, preferably one from a person that can judge students’ professional abilities and one from a person that can judge his/her academic abilities. One recommendation letter has to come from the current employer (if available) and another one from the university the student graduated from. Letters have to be printed on company (logo) paper and signed.
-Motivation letter (maximum 500 words explanation why he/she applies for admission to the choosen programme).
-Copy of passport.
-Copy of results of English language test score (if required, see English language requirements).
How to Apply: For MSc Specialization, apply should apply online, by filling out the application form on the specific page of the Delft-based MSc Specialization of applicant’s choice. In the part of the application, where applicant have to answer the question SPONSOR, applicant fill out: “I wish to apply for a SIDS fellowship”. Those interested in following a Short Course, can apply online, by filling out the application form on the specific page of the short course.
Application Deadline: The deadline for SIDS Fellowships for the 2016-2018 MSc Specializations is 1st July 2016. There are three deadlines for SIDS fellowships for the 2016 and 2017 Short Courses:
-15 June 2016: For Short Courses starting between 05 September and 31 October 2016
-12 October 2016: For Short Courses starting between 16 January and 24 March 2017
-03 January 2017: For Short Courses starting between 03 April and 21 July 2017
