University of Leicester is delighted to offer PGR Excellence Scholarship for PhD programme for September 2016 entry. Non-EU applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

The University of Leicester offers a range of scholarships to attract the brightest and the best students to Leicester regardless of background.

University of Leicester’s aim is to be a world-class research-intensive university and deliver teaching and facilitate learning of the highest quality.

Applicants will have satisfied the English language entry requirement if they have successfully completed one of the three approved English language tests: IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems); TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language); PTE (Pearson Test of English). In all other cases, applicants must satisfy the English language entry requirement by holding a specified academic English language qualification.

Course Level: Scholarship is offered for pursuing PhD programme.

Study Subject: Scholarship is offered within the College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities.

Scholarship Award: Up to eight International Excellence Scholarships to the value of £15,000* for September 2016 entry, to its Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programmes.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this scholarship:
Awards will be granted to the strongest applicants based on an assessment of your:
– research proposal
– academic record and
– supporting references
-You must be an international (non-EU) fee paying applicant.
-You must be able to commence studies in September 2016 as a full-time student.

Nationality: Non-EU applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have obtained a first class or upper second class undergraduate degree or an equivalent overseas qualification in a relevant subject. Applicants must have obtained a Masters’ degree in a relevant subject.

English language Requirements: In all other cases, applicants must satisfy the English language entry requirement by:
A. holding a specified academic English language qualification OR
B. achieving the required scores in one of the accepted English language tests OR
C. successfully completing the appropriate University English Language Teaching Unit pre-sessional courses.

Test Requirements: Applicants will have satisfied the English language entry requirement if they have successfully completed one of the three approved English language tests:
-IELTS (International English Language Testing Systems) – Academic Version
-TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) – Internet Based Test
-PTE (Pearson Test of English) – Academic Version
Other English language tests and other versions of the above tests – such as the IELTS (General Version) – are not accepted under any circumstances.
-In all cases the English language test must have been successfully completed no more than two years before the intended start date of the research degree programme.

Scholarships in UK

Supporting Material: Applicants have to submit the following documents along:
a.) Supply copies of all relevant certificates/diplomas and transcripts (Applicants must provide official copies of your transcripts including explanations of the mark schemes used and where possible, an indication of your ranking in class). Supporting documents that are not in English must be provided with a certified English translation.
b.) Applicants must also provide contact details for two academic referees who can comment on their suitability for the research degree programme.
