The Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and Physics and Astronomy (P&A) departments at the University of Southampton is awarding scholarships for UK and international applicants. These are awarded to undertake a challenging 3 years PhD project in Southampton.
The UTS Chancellor’s Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is the University’s most prestigious Fellowship Scheme, offering a four year combination research and teaching appointment for early career researchers.
All programmes at the University of Southampton are taught and assessed in the medium of English (other than those in modern foreign languages). Therefore, all applicants must demonstrate they possess at least a minimum standard of English language proficiency.
Course Level: Scholarship is available to undertake a challenging 3 years PhD project in Southampton.
Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded at the Electronics and Computer Science (ECS) and Physics and Astronomy (P&A) departments.

Scholarship Award:
-An annual bursary
-A full tuition fee waiver for UK students (or non-UK students already living in UK). -Applications are welcome from international applicants but the applicant must make appropriate arrangements to cover the difference in tuition fee (more information on request).

Eligibility: The criteria to be considered include, among others:
– Motivation
– High grades in algorithms, mathematics, machine learning, and other relevant courses,
– Letters of Recommendations (particularly if they come from researchers in algorithms and machine learning)
– Previous experience in Big Data Analytics implementation,
– Excellent English skills, written and oral
– Good communication and interpersonal skills
Nationality: UK citizens or citizens of any nationality can apply for these scholarships if already living in the UK.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: If applicant’s first language or language of education is not English, University will ask them to show evidence of fluency in the use of English. All of postgraduate programmes require a level of IELTS 6.5, to include a minimum of 6.5 in Writing and no less than 6.0 in Reading, Speaking or Listening.

– A cover letter (max. 1 page) including motivation, stating when the applicant can start, and any information needed to read and understand the remaining appendix.

– Title and abstract of MSc thesis
– Contact details of 1-2 persons for references
