London Metropolitan University is awarding three Vice Chancellor’s Research Scholarships for pursuing postgraduate research programme (MPhil/PhD) within the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Only home/EU applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

The University provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development.

London Met invests in students: from their purpose-built newsroom to their state-of-the-art superlab, university aim to create a stimulating and unique learning environment for their students.

In addition to academic requirements, University normally expect applicants whose first language is not English to have an IELTS, or equivalent English language qualification recognized by the University and the Home Office.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing postgraduate research programme (MPhil/PhD) at London Metropolitan University.

Study Subject: The following three areas of research are offered for VC scholarships:
-Scholarship 1 – Social Professions
Applications are invited in the areas of:
-State responses to violence against women; domestic violence; sexual violence (including sexual harassment); harmful practices; sexual exploitation; child sexual abuse/exploitation; Community Development; Early Childhood; Public health; Housing and Regeneration; Initial Teacher Training; Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit; Social Work; Youth and Community Work; Public Administration
-Scholarship 2 – Media, Culture and Communications
Applications are invited in the areas of: Applied Linguistics and TESOL; Creative and Professional Writing; English and American Studies; Interpreting and Translation; Journalism; Library and Information Management; Media, Digital Media and Film; Theatre and Performance Practice
-Scholarship 3 – Social Sciences
Applications are invited in the areas of: Criminology; Education Studies; Politics and International Relations; Sociology, Social Policy and Anthropology and Trade Union Studies.

Scholarship Award: All Scholarships cover the cost of Home/EU tuition fees only for the equivalent of up to 3 years full time.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for these scholarships:

London Metropolitan University Postgraduate Research VC Scholarships are awarded competitively to suitably qualified applicants following advertisement and interview. The VC Scholarships are not available to any applicant who is already enrolled/registered as an MPhil/PhD student at London Metropolitan University or elsewhere. Any applicants holding an upper second or first class honours degree or a Masters-level degree or an equivalent qualification or experience in an appropriate subject are eligible to apply. This means that eligible students currently completing taught postgraduate degrees – that is, MAs and MScs – are welcome to apply.

Nationality: Only home/EU applicants are eligible to apply for these scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: The normal minimum requirement for enrolment for a research degree is a good honours degree from a UK university or equivalent (first or second class).

English language Requirements: Applicants whose first language is not English, must provide evidence of English language skills demonstrated by:
-IELTS test at band 6.5 or above with a minimum score of 6.0 in each component, or
-TOEFL IBT (internet based test) with at least 23 in reading, 22 in listening, 24 in speaking and 23 in writing, or
-Pearson PTE (Academic) with at least 65 in listening, 65 in reading, 65 in writing and 65 in speaking
-For EU students only – a pass in the University’s English language test (the Password Test) or
-Equivalent as judged by the authorised admitting officer in accordance with the advice of the University’s International Office.
-Applicants resident outside the UK, for whom English is not their first language, should normally have gained the required English language qualification not more than two years prior to entry.

-Research proposal
-Two references – please send the reference form to your two referees and ask them to send the form back to the same email address.
