Applications are invited for Mladena and Dianko Sotirov Visiting Fellowship which is hosted by LSE IDEAS. Applicants of Bulgarian nationality as well as non-Bulgarian nationality are eligible to apply for this fellowship.

The main objective of the university is to provide high quality, comprehensive educational and training opportunities that are compatible to changing needs of the students.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is a world class centre for its concentration of teaching and research across the full range of the social, political and economic sciences.

If English is not applicant’s first language and if the language of instruction for their first degree is not English, school will ask them to provide evidence of their command of English. The most common qualification is the IELTS test.

Course Level: This is a visiting research fellowship programme.

Study Subject: Sotirov fellows study Bulgaria and the Balkan region, working to to understand its recent history, international affairs, the challenges it faces today and the prospects of tomorrow.

Scholarship Award: This Fellowship amounts to £3,000 and should cover a one to two month research stay in London anytime between 15 June – 1 October 2016, namely travel expenses, accommodation and subsistence.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for this fellowship:
-This Fellowship is intended primarily but not exclusively, for scholars in the early stages of their career, namely doctoral candidates and post-doctoral fellows whose work and research focuses primarily on a topic related to the history of international affairs of Bulgaria and the Balkans in the Twentieth Century. Exceptionally, research of distinct quality focused on current issues may also be taken into consideration.
-Although candidates of Bulgarian nationality will have priority, this fellowship is also awarded to candidates of non-Bulgarian nationality. Above all, it will be the quality of the candidate and of the proposed research that will determine the selection.

Nationality: Applicants of Bulgarian nationality are eligible to apply and will be given priority; this fellowship is also awarded to candidates of non-Bulgarian nationality.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: This Fellowship is intended primarily but not exclusively, for scholars in the early stages of their career, namely doctoral candidates and post-doctoral fellows whose work and research focuses primarily on a topic related to the history of international affairs of Bulgaria and the Balkans in the Twentieth Century.

English language Requirements: If English is not applicant’s first language and if the language of instruction for their first degree is not English, school will ask them to provide evidence of their command of English. The most common qualification is the IELTS test. Applicants do not need to have the required marks when they apply, but they would form a condition of any offer that they received, and would have to be achieved before their arrival at LSE. In each case school require the test of English for Academic Purposes. Their test should be no more than two years old by 1 October in the year they intend to start their programme. Other tests may be acceptable if they have already taken them, but conditions attached to offers will be set as required scores in the IELTS. If they are entering the UK on a student visa (tier 4), their language test scores must meet not just LSE’s requirements, but also those of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Please note that test scores must be achieved from one sitting of the relevant qualification.

-Two letters of academic recommendation (one of which must be from the applicant’s Thesis supervisor, if the applicant is a PhD student).
