The Fire Safety Engineering Group at University of Greenwich has two Vice Chancellor’s PhD Scholarships to run in conjunction with the EU Horizon2020 MSCA – RISE funded GEO-SAFE project. International students can apply for these PhD scholarships.

The University of Greenwich aims to achieve high-quality education, research and enterprise activities.

Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Humanities (ACH) is a large, interesting, multidisciplinary faculty with over 10,000 students and 345 permanent full-time staff. The faculty is based at Greenwich Campus, including the new teaching site in Stockwell Street.

For those whose first language is not English or if from a country where English is not the first language, a language proficiency score of at least IELTS 6.5 (in all elements of the test) unless the candidate’s degree was taught in English and obtained in a majority English speaking country, e.g. UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, etc.

Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing PhD programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded within the Faculty of Architecture, Computing & Humanities (ACH).

List of Subjects: Urban-scale evacuation modelling with application to Wild Fires and the analysis of human behavior during urban-scale evacuation involving Wild Fire

Scholarship Award:
Project 1: The bursary stipend is £14057 (Sterling) per year subject to review in the second and third years of the award.
Project 2: The bursary stipend is £14296 (Sterling) per year subject to review in the second and third years of the award.

Eligibility: The successful candidate will have a first class or 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Science, engineering, mathematics, etc.), or a good first degree and a master’s degree. The candidate would be expected to have experience of human factors research and be familiar with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. Experience of evacuation research is desirable.

Nationality: International students can apply for these PhD scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: The successful candidate will have a first class or 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Science, engineering, mathematics, etc.), or a good first degree and a master’s degree.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirement: Applicants from all other countries will be required to provide an IELTS certificate, achieving 6.5 in each area, or provide an equivalent certificate.

PhD Scholarships

Supporting Material: Required documentation:
-Scanned copies of transcripts
-Curriculum Vitae (CV), including the names of two referees
-A detailed research proposal of about 1,500 words (for scholarship applications, please see specific instructions in the advert)
-For international applicants, proof of English language proficiency. Applicant don’t need to prove their knowledge of English if they can show they are a national of one of the following countries or if applicant have undertaken an undergraduate or Master’s qualification in one of these countries. Antigua and Barbuda, Australia, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Canada, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, New Zealand, St Kitts and Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and USA.
-Applicants from all other countries will be required to provide an IELTS certificate, achieving 6.5 in each area, or provide an equivalent certificate.
