The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research (SSPSSR) is pleased to offer Vice Chancellor’s Scholarships for UK and international students. Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

The aim of the scholarship is to attract the best and most motivated people to UK.

University’s aim to provide an excellent education, delivered by world-class researchers and accomplished educators, to all those who have the ability and are ambitious and motivated to learn.

An IELT score of 7.0 for non-UK students with a minimum of 6.5 in all components, as all PhD scholarship students are expected to have excellent communication skills.

Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue PhD programme.

Study Subject: Scholarships are offered within the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research.

List of Subjects: Applied Psychology, Community Care, Criminology, Environmental Social Science, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health, Migration Studies, Social Policy, Social Work and Sociology

Scholarship Award: The scholarship covers tuition fees at the postgraduate standard home/EU rate (£4,052 per annum) in addition to an annual maintenance stipend of £14,057 per annum (for entry in September/October 2016 only).

Eligibility: -Successful candidates will have obtained a 1st or good 2.1 undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, and ordinarily an MA or MSc at Merit or Distinction level.
-Applications will only be considered if applicants have secured agreement from a member of staff in their area of interest to supervise them. Only one academic may be approached at a time (multiple simultaneous approaches will result in the application being rejected).

Nationality: UK and international students can apply for these research scholarships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: Successful candidates will have obtained a 1st or good 2.1 undergraduate degree in a relevant subject, and ordinarily an MA or MSc at Merit or Distinction level.

Test Requirement: No

PhD Scholarships

Supporting Material: In addition to the application for the scholarship, the applicant must submit the following documents:
-Research proposal of approximately 2,000 words.
-CV.
-Two academic references (on official headed paper) that include:
-full name and status/title of referee.
-name, address and telephone number of their institution or place of work.
-details of referee’s relationship to the applicant.
-full name of the applicant.
Note: references from University of Kent academic staff may be emailed from their University email account. Under the UK Data Protection Act 1998, references received by the University may be disclosed to the applicant.
