International Institute of Social Studies is inviting applications for 5 Ph.D. Fellowships in Development Studies. International students (except European Economic Area) can apply for these fellowships.
Fellowship aims to assist high achieving and highly motivated international students who have been offered a full-time place at an International Institute of Social Studies.

Applicants must have MA Degree in one of the Social Sciences or equivalent.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for Ph.D. programme.
Study Subject: Fellowships are available in Development Studies within the ISS research programme Global Development and Social Justice. Fellowships are available for research related to the following cross-cutting themes in the ISS research programme Global Development and Social Justice:
- Migration;
- Environment and climate change;
- Social protection and inequality;
Scholarship Award: Students will receive a fellowship of €1,630 per month, plus an additional allowance to cover the costs of their field work, which normally takes place during the second year into the Ph.D. programme.

Eligibility criteria is:
- The Ph.D. Fellowships are available only to citizens of countries that are not part of the European Economic Area.
- Proof of having obtained an MA Degree in one of the Social Sciences or equivalent, comprising at least four years of study at an internationally recognised university or Institute for Higher Education, as evidenced by certified copies of degrees and diplomas, and by copies of academic transcripts.
Nationality: International students (except European Economic Area) can apply for these fellowships.

English Language Requirements: Good command of English, both orally and in writing, as evidenced by holding a degree from an English-speaking university or by supplying the results of a proficiency test from a recognised authority (such as TOEFL, IELTS or British Council).
How to Apply: Applications for the five fellowships can be sent to phdfellowships2016-at-iss.nl. For all fellowships, applicants should submit the following:
- Proof of having obtained an MA Degree in one of the Social Sciences or equivalent, comprising at least four years of study at an internationally recognised university or Institute for Higher Education, as evidenced by certified copies of degrees and diplomas, and by copies of academic transcripts.
- A research proposal in one of the areas indicated above (4-6 pages).
- Good command of English, both orally and in writing, as evidenced by holding a degree from an English-speaking university or by supplying the results of a proficiency test from a recognised authority (such as TOEFL, IELTS or British Council).
- Names of at least three referees, who should be able to provide information about the applicant’s academic strengths.
