Magdalene College, Cambridge is pleased to offer Standard Bank Derek Cooper Scholarship for pursuing M.Phil programme. African applicants are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme.

The aim of scholarship is to enhance the skills of outstanding African students to enable them to contribute to the future growth of their countries.

Magdalene College is a constituent college of the University of Cambridge. The college was founded in 1428 as a Benedictine hostel, in time coming to be known as Buckingham College, before being refounded in 1542 as the College of St Mary Magdalene.

Applicants from outside the home country will often need to meet specific English language/other language requirements in order to be able to study there.

Course Level: Scholarship is available for pursuing M.Phil programme.

Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded in Economics, Education, Engineering for Sustainable Development, Finance and Management.

Scholarship Award: The scholarships are full awards that cover:
-University Composition Fee at the overseas rate
-Full maintenance grant for a single person
-£2,500 travel and settling in allowance.

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for scholarship:
-The scholarships aim to support African graduate students of outstanding academic merit and leadership potential, ordinarily resident in Angola, Botswana, Ivory Coast, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, South Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
-Preference will be given to students ordinarily resident in Angola, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria and South Africa who have been accepted to undertake MPhils in Economics, Education, and Engineering for Sustainable Development, Finance and Management. Applicants to the MBA and MFin are not eligible.
-Award holders will be expected to return to their countries to work or study after completing their course at Cambridge.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirements: The successful candidates will have gained a First class or High Second class BA honours degree or equivalent by 1 October 2016.

UK Scholarships

Supporting Material: All candidates must also complete a Standard Bank Derek Cooper Scholarship application form which can be downloaded or obtained from Ms C. Percival, the Graduate Tutor’s Assistant, Tutorial Office, Magdalene College, Cambridge CB3 0AG. Applications can be submitted in electronic form or in hard copy (6 copies) to the Graduate Tutor’s Assistant (lacp1-at-cam.ac.uk) by 27 May 2016. References must be received electronically or in hard copy by the closing date and applicants should ensure that their nominated referees keep to the application deadline. Incomplete or late applications will not normally be accepted.

How to Apply: Applications can be submitted in electronic form or in hard copy (6 copies) to the Graduate Tutor’s Assistant (lacp1-at-cam.ac.uk).
