Applications are invited for 5 full doctoral fellowships in the academic year 2016-2017. Fellowships are available for pursuing a doctoral degree in Comparative studies at the University of Lisbon, Portugal.
The overreaching aim of establishing the Centre for Comparative Studies was to transform the public higher education to improve quality and efficiency of teaching and learning, creating a world-class higher learning institution.
Founded in 1998, the Centre for Comparative Studies’ (CEC’s) is based at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the Universidade de Lisboa and brings together scholars from different academic and national backgrounds.
In order to be eligible applicants must have the holders of MA degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences. Applicants must have a working knowledge of three languages (including English).
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing a doctoral program.
Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in Comparative Studies at the University of Lisbon, Portugal.
Scholarship Award: Fellowships are yearly granted and renewable up to 4 years. It is expected that the fellowships will be granted by September 2016. Fellowships require exclusive dedication.
The monthly allowance is established according to FCT’s Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships. The payment is done by money transfer to the bank account provided by the student in the signing of the contract.
Scholarship can be taken in Portugal (Lisboa)
Eligibility: Applicants should meet the following criteria:
- Master degree in Humanities or Social Sciences
- Other graduate or undergraduate degrees when the candidate’s CV are considered relevant and suited to advanced research in Comparative Studies by the Directive Committee.
- Working knowledge of three languages (including English).
Applicants are eligible provided they comply with the following:
- The call is open to Portuguese citizens, citizens of European Union countries, citizens of countries outside European Union living in Portugal in the terms laid out by Law nº 23/2007, July 4th, modified by Law nº 29/2012, August 9th, citizens of countries with which Portugal has celebrated reciprocity agreements and citizens of other countries provided that the candidate undergoes a panel interview;
- Holders of MA degree in the Humanities or Social Sciences;
- Other graduate or undergraduate degrees when the Directive Board (DB) finds the CV of the candidate relevant and suitable to advanced research in Comparative Studies;
- Working Knowledge of three languages (including English);
- Have not previously received and identical type of FCT-funded fellowship for the same purpose.
Nationality: Portuguese citizens, citizens of European Union countries, citizens of countries outside the European Union living in Portugal are eligible to apply for these fellowships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have Master degree in Humanities or Social Sciences.
English language Requirements: Applicants must have a working knowledge of three languages (including English).
How to Apply: Applications should be sent by email to assessoria.cec-at-letras.ulisboa.pt with the following documents:
- Motivation letter (in English)
- Detailed CV (in English) dated and signed, with candidate’s email address, giving consent to be contacted through this means;
- Transcripts of diplomas or degrees with final grades;
- Degrees awarded by foreign higher education institutions must be officially recognized and registered by a Portuguese higher institution (the procedure for the registration of a degree confers the rights inherent to the Portuguese corresponding degree), as foreign grades must be converted to the Portuguese grading scale. NOTE: Candidates should contact the Directorate-General for Higher Education or the University of Lisbon;
- Preliminary Research proposal (Maximum: 5 pages; in English);
- Sample paper (max. 20 pages; in English, French or Portuguese);
- Copy of identification document (Passport or ID card);
- Statement of the professional situation, when applicable, indicating the nature of the contract, function, and average weekly course load, or personal declaration if not gainfully employed.
