The University of Western Australia invites scholars from outside Western Australia to apply for Gledden Visiting Fellowships. These fellowships promote and encourage education and research in the disciplines of applied science, more particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects.

The purpose of the fellowship is to provide travel costs or travel costs and living expenses for accommodation for scholars outside of Western Australia.

The University of Western Australia is recognized internationally as an excellent, research-intensive university and a leading intellectual and creative resource to the community it serves.

The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing research program.

Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in the disciplines of applied science, more particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects.

Scholarship Award: Fellowships provide round trip economy airfare and approximately $1500 per week inclusive of accommodation and a modest living allowance for up to a maximum of 90 days. All awards are in Australian dollars. Funding is not provided for accompanying spouse or families.

Eligibility: These fellowships are open to researchers who have doctoral degrees or equivalent qualifications or experience and who are mid-career researchers or senior researchers.

  • Nominations for mid-career researchers must demonstrate how the nominee’s research aligns with UWA’s areas of research strength and the potential to significantly enhance the group with which the nominee would be working at the University.
  • Nominations for senior researchers must demonstrate that the nominee has strong collaboration with the host group at this University as evidenced by recent co-authored publications or grants with that group.
  • Nominations for senior researchers who have previously received support from the Gledden Trust or other University funds are eligible for a subsequent fellowship only if the likely outcomes are judged by the Gledden Visiting Fellowships Committee to be of significant institutional benefit.

Nationality: International researchers can apply for these fellowships.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: These fellowships are open to researchers who have doctoral degrees or equivalent qualifications or experience and who are mid-career researchers or senior researchers.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirement: The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.

Australia Scholarships

How to Apply: All nominations must be lodged by a UWA staff member, who will host the nominee. External applications will not be accepted.

  • Complete Nomination Form including budget detail.
  • Obtain Host and Head of School’s Signature for Approval.
  • Include a maximum five-page abbreviated CV with publication/grants for the last five years only. Full CVs will not be accepted.
  • A letter from the home institution noting that if granted, the Fellow will be granted leave and will return to the home institution at the completion of the fellowship.
  • Make sure that the discipline area of the researcher is relevant to the criteria for Gledden: disciplines of applied science, more particularly relating to surveying, engineering, mining or cognate subjects.
  • The original and five copies of the application and abbreviated CV submitted to the Institute of Advanced Studies by 1 August 2016.
  • It is suggested that where on-going collaborative relations will continue beyond the terms of this fellowship, that the nominating area should consider offering an adjunct position.
