The Penn Humanities Forum is pleased to offer five (5) one-year Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowships for the academic year 2017-2018. The fellowship is open to all scholars, national and international, who meet application terms.
The Fellowship carries a stipend of $53,000 plus single-coverage health insurance (fellows are responsible for coverage for any dependents) and a $3000 research fund. Fellows teach one undergraduate course in addition to conducting their research.
The University of Pennsylvania is a private, Ivy League university located in Philadelphia. Incorporated as The Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn is one of 14 founding members of the Association of American Universities and one of the nine original colonial colleges.
Students need to demonstrate that they have a good level of written and spoken English.
Course Level: Fellowships are available for pursuing the postdoctoral program.
Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in the area of humanities.

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following guidelines
- The Ph.D. is the only eligible terminal degree, and applicants must be humanists or those in such allied fields as anthropology or history of science. Ineligible categories include an MFA or any other doctorate such as EdD, social scientists, scholars in educational curriculum building, and performing artists (note: scholars of performance are eligible).
- Scholars who received or will receive their Ph.D. between December 2008 and December 2016 are eligible to apply. You must have your degree in hand or have passed your defence no later than December 2016 to be eligible. Your application will not be considered unless this condition is met (i.e., you are ineligible to apply if you will defend or otherwise submit your dissertation anytime in 2017).
Nationality: The fellowship is open to all scholars, national and international.

How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online through the Forum’s secure webform only. The required components for complete application packet are as follows:-
- Complete the Application Form.
- Prepare curriculum vitae.
- Merge your completed application form and your c.v. into one file, with application first. Name your file: LastName-First (e.g., Franklin-Ben) and save as a PDF. Do not submit a Word doc.
- Arrange for three (3) confidential letters of recommendation. Each referee should upload their letter to our secure server as a PDF only. The submission deadline for referees is October 15, 2016. We strongly encourage you to contact your referees early enough to give them adequate time to meet this absolute deadline. (Custom instructions for uploading referee letters through Interfolio are explained below.)
- Upload and submit your application (with c.v. included) to our secure webform (please complete and carefully check all webform fields). Applications that are emailed or snail-mailed will be considered ineligible.
