A position as Postdoctoral Fellow (SKO 1352) in Science Education is vacant at the Department of Teacher Education and School Research. Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for the fellowship.

The aim of the scholarship is to enable and encourage academically able students from any nationality.

A good command of English is required of all students attending the University of Oslo. International students; PhD research fellows and postdoctoral research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English.

Course Level: Fellowship is provided for the postdoctoral programme at the University of Oslo.

Study Subject: Fellowship is tenable in Science Education at University of Oslo in Norway.

Scholarship can be taken in Norway

Eligibility: The appointment requires a PhD or a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in a relevant field. A prerequisite for applicants who have not yet defended their thesis is that the PhD work is submitted for assessment before the closing date for applications. Appointment to the post-doctoral position is dependent on the public defence of the doctoral thesis being approved.

In the assessment of the applications, emphasis will be put on:

  • The quality of the project description
  • The project’s alignment with the fields of research described in the LOCUMS project plan
  • The applicants’ publications and academic and personal qualifications for conducting the project
  • Personal suitability and motivation for the post
  • Good ability to collaborate nationally (in Norwegian or another Scandinavian language) and internationally, and to contribute to the advancement of knowledge in the area.

In the final ranking of (equally) qualified candidates the distribution of fellowships across the above-specified research fields and research groups will be taken into account.

Nationality: Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for the fellowship.

College Admission Requirement

Entrance Requirement: The appointment requires a PhD or a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD in a relevant field.

Test Requirement: No

English Language Requirements:  A good command of English is required for all students attending the University of Oslo. International students; Ph.D. research fellows and post-doctoral research fellows who are not native speakers of English, must document their proficiency in English by taking one of the following internationally recognised tests

  • TOEFL – Test of English as a Foreign Language
  • IELTS – International English Language Testing Service
  • Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) and Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) from the University of Cambridge
  • Applicants to the programme for the Ph.D. degree in Science must obtain a minimum score of 550 (paper-based) or 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based) on the TOEFL test or a minimum score of 6.5 on the IELTS (academic) test. The same applies to applicants for postdoctoral research fellow positions.

How to Apply: The mode of applying is online. Applications must be sent electronically via Easycruit and must contain:

  • Letter of application
  • CV
  • List of publications
  • Certified copies of diplomas and testimonials
  • Project description, including progress plan and budget (max. 10 pages). It is assumed that the applicant will be able to complete the project in the course of the period of employment.
  • Any academic works that must be taken into account in the assessment (up to 10 academic works)
  • We recommend that you enclose a copy of your PhD .

The application must be written in English or a Scandinavian language.
