The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is delighted to offer its Media Journalism Awards to recognize and reward journalists. Only journalists who are COMESA nationals are eligible for the competition.
The aim of the awards is to promote reporting of COMESA regional integration projects hence raising public awareness, understanding and participation and ownership.
The Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is a free trade area with twenty member states stretching from Libya to Swaziland. COMESA is one of the pillars of the African Economic Community.
Scholarship Description:
- Application Deadline: January 31, 2018.
- Course Level: Award is available for individual journalists.
- Study Subject: The awards are open for published and broadcasted works in the fields of print, radio, television, and online media.
- Scholarship Award: Selection of the best works will be decided upon by an adjudication panel identified by COMESA Secretariat from the Member States. The winners will get sponsorship to the COMESA Heads of State Summit, Summit, a monetary award, a trophy and a certificate.
- Nationality: Applicants who are COMESA nationals(Djibouti, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, Comoros, Libya, Seychelles, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Swaziland ) are eligible to apply for the award.
- Number of Scholarships: Number of awards is not given.
- Scholarship can be taken in any of the 19 COMESA Member States

- Eligible Countries: Applicants from Djibouti, Egypt, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Sudan, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Burundi, Comoros, Libya, Seychelles, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Swaziland are eligible to apply.
- Entrance Requirements: Applicants must be a individual journalists
- English Language Requirements: Applicants must be fluent in English.

How to Apply:
- The entries shall be works published/broadcast by a recognised media institution in any of the 19 COMESA Member States between 1st January 2017 and 31 December 2017.
- Entries shall consist of the following:
- Print Journalism: Features/articles of a minimum 700 (seven hundred) and maximum 1,500 (One thousand five hundred) words published in newspapers, magazines/ journals and newsletters.
- Radio Journalism: Documentary or discussion programmes of minimum 10 (ten) minutes and maximum 20 (twenty) minutes duration.
- Television Journalism: Documentary or discussion programme of minimum 10 (ten) minutes and maximum 20 (twenty) minutes duration.
- Online/new media: Features/articles of a minimum 700 (seven hundred) and maximum 1,500 (One thousand five hundred) words published in newspapers, magazines/ journals and newsletters.
