Applications are invited for Durham International Fellowships for Research and Enterprise (COFUND). The schemes are COFUNDed by Durham University and the European Union, and encompass two main fellowship schemes:
Junior Research Fellowship Scheme: The scheme is designed to attract the most talented researchers in Europe and beyond, and to build international networks of scholars with a common passion for today’s most important research challenges.
Senior Fellowship Scheme: This scheme is designed to gather together scholars, researchers, policymakers or practitioners from around the world and across the full spectrum of science, social science, arts and humanities to address themes of global significance in collaboration with Durham’s Research Institutes and researchers.
The Durham University Business School is the business school of Durham University and is located in Durham, England. Established in 1965, it holds triple accreditation.
Scholarship Description:

Scholarship Award:Durham International Junior Research Fellowships:
JRFs receive a training allowance of up to €7k p.a. to fund fieldwork and conference attendance, research consumables, publication costs, impact and outreach activities. Access to Durham research facilities required for the project is provided as part of the Fellowship, as agreed by the Institute Director / Head of Department. The provision of additional research expenses for consumables/fieldwork should be discussed with the Durham academic host since these are not provided by the Fellowship Scheme. Applicants should make costings clear and the relevant Institute Director / Head of Department needs to sign these off as part of the application process on the support proforma to be submitted by the host.
Durham International Senior Fellowships
Durham University will cover the costs associated with the Senior Research Fellow travelling to Durham, the UK from their home institution (return fare – economy class) and will provide all Senior Research Fellows with an honorarium (£3,000 for three months, prorated for shorter stays, not subject to UK tax). In exceptional cases, teaching buy-out costs up to a maximum value of €11,200 (prorated for periods of less than 3 months) can be applied for by academics who will not be on research leave/sabbatical whilst holding a Senior Research Fellowship at Durham.

Up to 24 Fellowships will be available in (2018-19): 16 Senior Research Fellowships and 8 Policy and Enterprise Fellowships.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:
Eligible Countries: There are no nationality restrictions, but the award of a Fellowship will be conditional on a visa and work permit being secured, if required, from the UK Border Agency.

To be eligible, in line with the terms of funding set by Marie Curie, “researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country [i.e. the UK] of the host organization [i.e. Durham University] for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. Compulsory national service and/or short stays such as holidays are not taken into account”. The reference date is 1 July 2018.
Durham International Senior Fellowships
- In line with the terms of funding set by Marie Curie, “researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in the country of their host organization for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date. - Applicants from any discipline are eligible to apply
- Applicants should be active researchers with an established or emerging international reputation for scholarship and research leadership
- Applicants must satisfy the EU definition of an ‘Experienced Researcher’
- Durham Senior Research Fellows must carry out a programme of collaborative research in association with one of the Durham’s 9 Research Institutes, with the Durham University Business School, or with one of Durham’s other academic research groups
- Applicants must submit a complete application as described in the Application Procedures
- Applicants must agree to the conditions of the Durham Senior Research Fellowships as described above
English Language Requirements: If English is not your first language you will need IELTS 7.0 (no element below 6.5) or Pearson Test of English Overall Score 70+ (No element below 62).
