Eligibility

  • Eligible Countries: New Zealand students
  • Acceptable Course or Subjects: The grant is available for an undergraduate degree program.
  • Admissible Criteria: To be worthy, candidates must:
  • Have received at least NCEA Level 3 Merit, or equivalent, at a secondary school within the past two years
  • Be aiming to enrol full-time (a full-time academic year comprises 120 points) in an undergraduate degree at the University of Waikato for the first time1 in the year of tenure;
  • Not have applied for or accepted an offer for any other University of Waikato scholarships that covers a tuition fees or accommodation credit component, unless these are specifically for financial hardship
  • Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident

How to Apply

  • How to Apply: To apply for the award, you have to enrol in the master’s degree program at the University of Waikato. After that, you can apply for the grant. Note: The closing date for online applications is 20 February each year.
  • Supporting Documents: Applicants must submit evidence of academic readiness (NCEA Level 3 results, CV, letter of motivation, transcript, passport-sized photographs, all necessary mark sheets, proof of citizenship, birth certificate, passport and permits, and a written statement in support of your application, if applicable.
  • Admission Requirements: Before admission, you need to check general entry requirements for undergraduate study.
  • Language Requirement: Candidates must have good command in the English language to study at the University of Waikato.

Benefits

  • Every grant will have a value of up to $3,000 and will have a tenure of one year. Even if a receiver’s Fees-Free status spreads the processing of the award over more than one year.
  • $3,000 will be awarded to those with Level 3 with Excellence.
  • $2,000 will be awarded to those who receive Level 3 with Merit.
