Applications are invited for 224 new £10,000 scholarships for Masters study at the University of Birmingham. The scholarship is available for any of the courses offered by the university (excluding Government-funded programmes such as Nursing, -Teacher Training and Social Work).  The application deadline is 31 July 2015.

Eligibility: The Birmingham Masters Scholarships will be available to students who meet all of the following criteria. They must be:
-Domiciled in the UK or EU
-Progressing from an undergraduate course in the UK for which they were charged the higher tuition fee (applicable since 2012–13)
-Studying full time or part time for a maximum of two years
-Undertaking a Masters course in any subject (excluding Government-funded programmes such as Nursing, -Teacher Training and Social Work) and from a group that is evidentially under represented among the institution’s taught-Masters population.

Under-represented group guidance:-In order to apply, applicant must meet at least two of the following under-represented group criteria:
-Attended a state school or college
-In receipt of a maintenance grant from the SLC at undergraduate level, in receipt of a means-tested bursary or -currently in receipt of income support
-At the time of entry to undergraduate study, lived in a postcode that has a low progression rate to higher education as measured by POLAR3 (quintiles 1 and 2)
-Previously participated in Access to Birmingham (A2B), Realising Opportunities or a similar outreach or widening participation programme (automatic qualifier)
-Come from a care background (automatic qualifier)
-In receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) as an undergraduate
-Come from a home in which neither parent attended university

Scholarship Open for International Students: The scholarship is available for students who have domiciled in the UK or EU

Scholarship Description: For 2015 entry the University has 224 new £10,000 scholarships available for Masters Students from under-represented groups. These scholarships have been jointly funded by the British Government; the allocation of the awards, which is the fourth highest in the UK, further cements Birmingham’s place amongst the very best higher education institutions for postgraduate study.

What does it cover? Successful candidates will have their tuition fees credited in the first instance, the balance being paid by BACS into a UK bank account in installments during the period of the course.
