Doctoral Scholarships for IAB’s Graduate Programme (GradAB) in Germany, 2016

Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the School of Business and Economics of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg are offering doctoral scholarships for IAB’s Graduate Programme. The aim of the programme is to train outstanding junior researchers from the social sciences and economics disciplines in the field of labour market and occupational research. A maximum of six scholarships are awarded for a maximum duration of 3 years, beginning January 1st, 2016. The application deadline is 15 October, 2015.

Eligibility:
-They address outstanding graduates from economics, sociology or other social sciences who hold a master degree or diploma. Applicants are expected to submit a proposal addressing empirical and theoretical research questions in the field of labour market research or the development of the required statistical-econometric methods
-Preference will be given to dissertation proposals that would profit in a special way from being attached to IAB and from which IAB itself might profit in a special way. Please refer to IAB’s Organizational Chart for the areas of research of individual Research Departments.

Scholarship Description: The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) and the School of Business and Economics of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg have set up a joint doctoral programme in labour market research. The labour markets of western industrialized states are currently experiencing diverse and sometimes far-reaching processes of change. In order to understand these and to study them in an analytical way, it is necessary to conceive and apply theoretical concepts and empirical findings from a variety of different scientific disciplines. This is the reason why IAB and the School of Business and Economics of the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg have set up a programme to support doctoral proposals in the field of labour market research. The aim of the programme is to train outstanding junior researchers from the social sciences and economics disciplines in the field of labour market and occupational research.

Number of award(s): A maximum of six scholarships are granted each year.

Duration of award(s): Doctoral Scholarships are awarded for a maximum duration of 3 years, beginning January 1st, 2016

What does it cover? The scholarship is 1,000 Euros per month. In addition, a family allowance of 220 Euros per month can be drawn if your spouse does not undertake more than marginal part-time work/a self-employed activity (Section 8 SGB IV) or if he/she is a single parent with custody for at least one child. Moreover, each participant gets a budget of 1,200 Euros for conferences and external courses.

Selection Criteria: The applicant will present him/herself to the selection commission. This will consist of a short presentation of the project, followed by a discussion. Selection of applicants to be offered a scholarship in accordance with their written documents and personal presentation.

Notification: Interviews will be held on November,13th 2015. Scholarships will be announced via the Internet and via further appropriate media.

How to Apply: Application should be send by email. Application documents must contain:
-The application form
-A complete, tabular CV
-Copies of school leaving certificates and certificates relating to vocational training and activities, copies of university certificates already attained.
-A letter of reference from a professor with respect to personal and academic qualifications and the importance of the topic of the dissertation for labour market and occupational research. The letter of recommendation has to be submitted to the program coordinator (Stephan Brunow) directly.
-An outline of the project
