Cardiff University is inviting applications for funded PhD studentship in neurosurgical engineering. To be eligible for the full award, EU Nationals must have been in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course for which they are seeking funding, including for the purposes of full-time education. Applicants for a studentship must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a 2.1 degree or higher in a relevant subject. Applications are particularly welcome from applicants with a good first degree or Masters qualification in Biomedical Sciences, Computer Sciences, Medical Sciences, Neuroscience, Mechanical Engineering Physics, or related subjects. The application deadline is 31 August 2015.

Eligibility: -Residency: Full awards (fees plus maintenance stipend) are open to UK Nationals and EU students who can satisfy UK residency requirements. To be eligible for the full award, EU Nationals must have been in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the course for which they are seeking funding, including for the purposes of full-time education. EU Nationals who do not meet the above residency requirement are eligible for a fees only award, provided that they have been ordinarily resident in the EU for at least 3 years prior to the start of their proposed programme of study.

Scholarship Description: Cardiff University, in collaboration with Renishaw PLC, is pleased to offer PhD opportunities available for 3 or 4 years, fully funded, which will involve working with one of the following –Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff University Brain Imaging Centre (CUBRIC) and Cardiff School of Computer Science and Infomatics. The Cardiff University Schools of Engineering, Computer Science and CUBRIC (Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre, School of Psychology) in collaboration with Renishaw PLC seek three PhD students to join a research team developing computational modelling and MRI for surgical planning. They will work with world-renowned experts in tissue modelling, computer vision and brain imaging.

What does it cover? This studentship is very generously funded by funds from Renishaw, the EPSRC and Cardiff School of Engineering. This studentship consists of full UK/EU tuition fees, as well as a Doctoral Stipend matching UK Research Council National Minimum (£14,057 p.a. for 2015/16, updated each year).
