Applications are invited for NAHSSS Scholarship available for qualified allied health professionals including Aboriginal Health Workers to study a formal postgraduate qualification at a recognised university or institution. Funding is for a maximum of two years for full-time study or four years for part-time study. The maximum scholarship entitlement is $30,000. The scholarship can be used to pay course fees, travel and accommodation to attend on-campus sessions, books, internet connection and other resources. The application deadline is 15 October, 2015.
Study Subject(s): The eligible allied health professions under the scholarship stream are: Aboriginal Health Worker (Cert IV and above), Audiology, Chiropractor, Chinese Medicine, Dental and Oral Health, Dentists, Dental Hygienist, Dental Therapy, Dental Prosthetics, Diabetes Educator, Dietetics and Nutrition, Exercise Physiology (AAESS approved only), Genetic Counsellor (Postgraduate only), Health Promotion (Postgraduate only), Medical Radiation Science, Medical Imaging, Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Orthoptics, Osteopathy, Paramedic, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Psychology, Social Work (AASW approved courses only), Speech Pathology and Sonography. Nurses and midwives are not eligible for the allied health stream of the NAHSSS.
Course Level: Scholarship is available to undertake postgraduate course (graduate certificate, graduate diploma, masters or PhD programs) at a recognised university or institution in Australia.

Eligibility: Allied Health Professionals applying to commence or who are already enrolled in a postgraduate course offered by an Australian Tertiary Institution (University) within the Commonwealth of Australia can apply for this scholarship. The proposed course must be directly related to the applicant’s area of clinical practice. Courses related to health service management are eligible. It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit an eligible application. Identification of ineligibility can occur at any stage during the applications assessment and conditional offer phases. Applicants must be:
-Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
-Hold a current practice certificate (or the equivalent) in an eligible allied health profession or be eligible to join their professional organisation/Association.
-For Health Professions that come under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), registration with this Agency is required.
-Deliver clinical services in Australia.
-Be undertaking or applying to undertake a Postgraduate course.
Scholarship Open for International Students: 
Scholarship Description: As a part of newly announced scholarships by the Commonwealth Government, SARRAH will award 28 additional scholarships under the NAHSSS Allied Health Postgraduate Scholarship Stream in 2015 in identified areas of practice i.e. primary care, aged care, mental health as well as Indigenous Health service. The eligibility criteria, application process and funding amount for these scholarships are the same as for current scholarships noting that these additional scholarships can only be awarded to eligible applicants whose area of practice is primary care, aged care, mental health and/or indigenous health service.
Number of award(s): SARRAH will award 28 additional scholarships under the NAHSSS Allied Health Postgraduate Scholarship Stream in 2016 in identified areas of practice i.e. primary care, aged care, mental health as well as Indigenous Health service.
Duration of award(s): Funding is for a maximum of two years for full-time study or four years for part-time study.
What does it cover? The maximum scholarship entitlement is $30,000. Where the applicant has already started the course, the funding will be at a pro-rata rate for the uncompleted study component. There will be no extension of funding beyond two years at the full-time rate. The scholarship is not retrospective. The scholarship is a contribution towards the cost of undertaking continuing professional education. The scholarship can be used to pay course fees, travel and accommodation to attend on-campus sessions, books, internet connection and other resources. It is at the scholar’s discretion how scholarship funds are disbursed. Continuing confirmation of enrolment is required before the funds are granted.
Selection Criteria: The objective of the scholarship is to address workforce shortages in areas of geographical and clinical need. The assessment and selection criteria reflect these requirements.
-Rural, remote or regional background.
-Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background.
Notification: Applicants will be notified via email by 30 November, 2015.
