University of Oslo is offering a PhD research fellowship in Semiconductor Physics at the Department of Physics. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials. The application deadline is 10 September 2015.

Study Subject (s): Fellowship is awarded in Semiconductor Physics at Center for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN) .
Course Level: Fellowship is available for pursuing PhD research programme at University of Oslo.
Scholarship Provider: University of Oslo, Norway
Scholarship can be taken at: Norway
Accreditation: University of Oslo is an accredited university. University of Oslo is accredited by the EUA.

Eligibility: –The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences has a strategic ambition of being a leading research faculty. Candidates for these fellowships will be selected in accordance with this, and expected to be in the upper segment of their class with respect to academic credentials.
-Applicants must hold a Master’s degree or equivalent in semiconductor physics, with a solid background in semiconductor materials, processing and characterization. For the present position, well-documented experience with processing in clean room, growth/synthesis (magnetron sputtering, metal organic vapor phase epitaxy, etc.) of semiconducting oxides, and electrical and optical characterization will be positively evaluated, as well as good communication skills.
-The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.
-The fellowship requires admission to the PhD program at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. The application to the PhD program must be submitted to the department no later than two months after taking up the position.
-A good command of English is required.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Norwegian and international students can apply for this research fellowship.

Scholarship Description: The primary objective of SALIENT is to develop and explore the functionality of unconventional semiconducting alloys based on oxide semiconductors. Oxide semiconductors, like zinc oxide (ZnO), are attractive as optoelectronic materials with applications ranging from solar cells and light emitting devices to power electronics and water splitting. However, it is challenging to exploit all their attractive inherent properties and full use in solid state devices, like solar cells and light emitting diodes. However, combined with a more mature technology, like gallium nitride (GaN), ZnO can overcome several of its major challenges. In fact, the tuning possibility of functional properties may exceed that of the parent semiconductors by unconventional alloying, like anion incorporation. Hence, the PhD project aims at investigating the physics of unconventional alloying of oxides (with emphasis on ZnO), and is an application motivated basic research project within semiconductor and solid state physics.
