School Leaver Scholarships at Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand, 2016

Victoria University of Wellington is inviting applications for School Leaver Scholarships. Approximately 470 scholarships are available for school leavers – 400 Victoria Excellence Scholarships and 70 Victoria Achiever Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to hundreds of first-year undergraduate students each year to assist with tuition fees and accommodation costs at our halls of residence. Applications for both the Victoria Excellence and Victoria Achiever Scholarships close on Tuesday 15 September 2015.

Eligibility: Victoria Excellence Scholarship is awarded on the bases of academic performance in Year 12. Applications are encouraged from students who have achieved at least NCEA Level 2 endorsed with Excellence, or equivalent in another qualification and Victoria Achiever Scholarships are for students who may otherwise be unable to attend Victoria University. Applicants need to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit, or equivalent, and must also fall into one (or more) of the following categories:
-Mori students
-Pacific students
-students with disabilities
-students educated at decile 1 to 3 secondary schools
– students who can demonstrate financial hardship.

Scholarship Open for International Students: The scholarships are for both home and international students.

Scholarship Description: There are two types of scholarships available for school leavers—Victoria Excellence Scholarships and Victoria Achiever Scholarships. Victoria Excellence Scholarships: – The purpose of the scholarship is to recruit high-achieving undergraduate students to Victoria University of Wellington and to support them in their studies. We will award 400 scholarships for study in 2016. This will be done competitively on the basis of academic merit. The majority of these scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 for the first year of study. The top 20 applicants will be awarded the new Victoria Vice-Chancellor’s Excellence Scholarships, valued at $20,000 over three years of study. And Victoria Achiever Scholarships: – The purpose of this scholarship is to recruit academically-able school leavers to a Bachelor’s degree program at Victoria University of Wellington. Students must be represented in one or more of the following targeted groups: Mori students, Pacific students, students with disabilities, students from decile 1-3 schools and students who can demonstrate financial hardship. Up to 70 scholarships for study in 2016 will be awarded competitively on the basis of academic merit and other criteria. The majority of these scholarships will be awarded at $5,000 for the first year of study. The top applicant in each category will be awarded the new Victoria Vice-Chancellor’s Achiever Scholarship (ie. a total of five scholarships). These scholarships are valued at $20,000 over three years of study.

What does it cover? Victoria Excellence Scholarship and Victoria Achiever Scholarships are worth $5,000.

Selection criteria: Victoria Excellence Scholarship- Applicants with NCEA Certificate Level 2 or above endorsed with Excellence are encouraged to apply. The excellence credits must have been obtained in Year 11 or 12; credits gained beyond Year 12 cannot be counted. ; Students with an equivalent level of achievement in an alternative qualification (eg. IB, CIE) will also be considered. See the regulations for more information; International fee-paying students who have completed at least one full year at a New Zealand secondary school are eligible to apply. And for Victoria Achiever Scholarships -School leavers who are represented in one of the targeted groups above are eligible to apply; Students will need to have their NCEA Level 2 Certificate endorsed with Merit, or an equivalent level of achievement in an alternative qualification (eg. IB or CIE).;All offers of the Scholarship will be conditional upon the award recipient gaining NCEA Level 3 with at least 25 credits at Merit or Excellence (or equivalent in another qualification), University Entrance and admission to their degree program.
