AADRF Half-Funded PhD Scholarships in Australia, 2016

Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation is offering half-funded PhD scholarships in an area relevant to an aspect of dementia. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time research degree at an Australian university or show that they have made arrangements to undertake a full-time PhD in research at an Australian university. The scholarship is with a value of up to $15,000 per year for three years plus $2,500 per year for research related expenses. The application deadline is 16 October 2015.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded to undertake a research PhD in an area on one of the two research priority areas: Loss, bereavement and grief in dementia: the impact on the person with dementia, carers and families and Dementia in acute care. in an area relevant to an aspect of dementia.

Eligibility: To be eligible for a PhD Scholarship award the applicant must:
-Be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia or a New Zealand citizen living in Australia. Applicants who have been resident in Australia for at least two years and have evidence of eligibility and application for permanent residency may also be eligible for Postgraduate Research Scholarships in Dementia
-Be enrolled in a full-time research degree at an Australian university or show that they have made arrangements to undertake a full-time PhD in research at an Australian university. Part-time PhD students are not eligible for AADRF Half Funded Scholarships
-Have written agreement of a qualified supervisor and the support of an Australian university to carry out the proposed project
-The research proposal must relate to an aspect of dementia
-Follow the guidelines of the host institution regarding paid work hours during their PhD (i.e. many Australian university permit a maximum of 10 hours paid work per week)
-Not hold another scholarship (i.e. the half funded scholarship cannot be used as a top up scholarship)

Scholarship Open for International Students: AADRFThese PhD scholarships are available for permanent residents of Australia or a New Zealand citizens living in Australia.

Scholarship Description: The Half Funded PhD Scholarships are offered to students undertaking a research PhD in an area relevant to an aspect of dementia and will be awarded for three years, with a value of up to $15,000 per year for three years (matched 1:1 by the recipient’s Institution) plus $2,500 per year for research related expenses.

Number of award(s): The foundation is awarding three half funded PhD scholarships.

Duration of award(s): The scholarships will be awarded for three years.

What does it cover? The scholarship is with a value of up to $15,000 per year for three years plus $2,500 per year for research related expenses.

Selection Criteria: All applications in this round will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
-The quality of the academic record and potential of the applicant
-The relevance of the project to research in dementia
-The suitability of intended/current supervisors and institution
-The significance, feasibility and merit of the research proposal

Notification: Outcomes will be announced in December 2015.
