Applications are invited for NSW rural undergraduate scholarships available for students form rural NSW who are undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree in 2016. The scholarships target applicants who reside within a geographical boundary that is experiencing an inability to recruit and retain nurses and midwives. Scholarships are valued at $2,500 for students studying part time and $5,000 for students studying full time. Applications for these scholarships can be made for each year of study, up to a maximum of six years for part-time students. The applications deadline is 20th November 2015.

-Are you currently living and have you have lived in a rural location (as defined for the purposes of these scholarships) in NSW for more than five years, within the last ten years?
-Are you intending to practice in a rural location as a registered nurse or midwife when you complete your studies?
-If successful, are you willing to participate in an evaluation or telephone survey about the Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship?

Scholarship Description: Scholarships of up to $5,000 per year are available for people from rural NSW who are undertaking a Bachelor of Nursing or Bachelor of Midwifery degree in 2016. Preference will be given to applicants living in locations with the greatest workforce needs, which may change from year to year. Applications for these scholarships can be made for each year of study, up to a maximum of six years for part-time students. Applicants may apply annually, however, each application will be reviewed on its merits. It should not be assumed that successful applicants in one year will be successful in subsequent years.

What does it cover? Scholarships are valued at $2,500 for students studying part time and $5,000 for students studying full time. The amount of funding will be based on your enrolment information supplied. The EFTSL on your enrolment will indicate whether you are a full time or part time student. To be considered to be a full time student your EFTSL must add up to 1.00. Funding will be adjusted if money is received for your course from another source. Scholarship funding is provided to assist students with educational expenses directly associated with their undergraduate nursing or midwifery degree. The Health Education and Training Institute does not require receipts, however these should be retained by the scholarship recipient for taxation purposes.
Selection Criteria: The awarding of scholarships is a competitive process, since the number awarded is subject to funds being available. Preference will be given to applicants living in locations with the greatest workforce needs, which may change from year to year.
Notification: Applicants will be notified about the outcome of their application by the end of January 2016.
How to Apply: Applications must be submitted online. To apply you are required to provide an essay of 250 – no more than 500 words and the four supporting documents. Please note: different essay questions apply depending on whether you have already commenced your nursing or midwifery degree. It is preferable that you send your supporting documentation by Express Post so that you can track its delivery status.
