Western Australian Government Scholarships for Women, 2016

Applications are invited for Western Australian Government Scholarships from women, and employers of eligible women. There are up to 100 scholarships available to women over the age of 18 who have left school and who undertake training at Certificate III level or above in eligible qualifications. Scholarships to the value of $3 000 each will be awarded over four years. The application deadline is 31 October 2015.

Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in the following subjects areas: Construction, Creative and Leisure Industries, Electrical Utilities and Public Administration, Engineering and Automotive, Financial, Administrative and Professional Services, Food, Fibre and Timber Industries, Logistics and Resources. Course Level: Scholarships are available for apprenticeships, trainee-ships and institutional training at Certificate III level or above in eligible qualifications.
Scholarship Provider: Western Australian Government (this scholarship program is a joint initiative of the Department of Training and Workforce Development, the Department of Local Government and Communities and the Construction Training Fund).

Eligibility: Women, and employers of eligible women, are encouraged to apply. Individuals apply for an ‘Expanding career options for women’ scholarship you must be:
-a woman who is 18 years or older and have left school;
-a Western Australian resident and either an Australian citizen; permanent resident or holder of Visa subclass 309, 310, 820, 826 or 851; or dependent or spouse of the primary holder of a visa subclass 457;
-planning to undertake an eligible qualification with an approved training provider;
-planning to commence the qualification between 1 January 2016 and 31 December 2016; and
-not receiving another scholarship for your course of study.
Employers of an eligible applicant applying for the $2 000 incentive payment need to be either:
-offering an apprenticeship or traineeship to a woman who has been awarded a scholarship; or
-planning to offer an apprenticeship or traineeship in an eligible trade/industry qualification to a woman who meets the eligibility criteria. The apprentice or trainee must also enroll with an approved publicly funded training provider.

Scholarship Open for International Students: Australian citizens can apply for this scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The State Government is encouraging women to take up non-traditional industries and trades and occupations where women currently make up less than 25 per cent of the total workforce. Up to 400 scholarships – over four years – to the value of $3 000 each, will be available to women over the age of 18 who have left school and who undertake training at Certificate III level or above in eligible qualifications. This scholarship program is a joint initiative of the Department of Training and Workforce Development, the Department of Local Government and Communities and the Construction Training Fund. Scholarships are available to women and employers planning to train in more than 170 eligible qualifications, linked to non-traditional occupations.

Number of award(s): There are up to 100 scholarships available for 2016

Duration of award(s): Scholarships will be offered each year, over a period of four years.

What does it cover? For institutional training, $3 000 will be available for women planning to undertake a publicly funded institutional training course in an approved qualification. For apprenticeships and traineeships, $1 000 will be available for women planning to undertake an approved apprenticeship or traineeship; and their employers will receive a $2 000 incentive payment. These scholarships can be used to help with costs associated with training, including student fees, learning resources, mentoring, coaching, tools, equipment, accommodation, transport and childcare fees.

Selection Criteria: Applications will be assessed via a simple online application. Scholarships will be awarded across industry areas, qualifications, and metropolitan and regional areas.

Notification: All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in December 2015.
