American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) is awarding research fellowships for the year 2016.

ACCR awards up to two fellowships for applicants of all nationalities to support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct clinical and/or translational cancer research.

The mission of the American Association for Cancer Research is to prevent and cure cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration.

Course Level: Fellowships are available for to encourage and support postdoctoral or clinical research fellows to conduct clinical and/or translational cancer research.

Study Subject: Scholarships are offered for Research projects may be in any area of clinical and/or translational cancer research.

Scholarship Award: The fellowships provide one-year grants of $55,000 to support the salary and benefits of the Fellow while working on a mentored clinical and/or translational cancer research project. A partial amount of funds may be designated for non-personnel expenses, such as research/laboratory supplies, equipment, travel to the AACR Annual Meeting 2016, publication charges for manuscripts that pertain directly to the funded project, and other research expenses.

Eligibility: Applicants can apply for this fellowship if they:
-Applicants must have a medical and/or doctoral degree (including PhD, MD, DO, DC, ND, DDS, DVM, ScD, DNS, PharmD, or equivalent doctoral degree) in a related field and not currently be a candidate for a further doctoral or professional degree.
-At the start of the grant term on July 1, 2016, applicants must hold a full-time, mentored research position with the title of postdoctoral fellow, clinical research fellow, or the equivalent (In order for applicant to be considered eligible, any pending full-time mentored position can NOT be contingent upon receiving this grant); have completed his or her most recent doctoral degree within the past 5 years (i.e., degree cannot have been conferred before July 2, 2011); and work under the auspices of a mentor at an academic, medical, or research institution anywhere in the world.
-Applicants with a medical degree must have completed his or her most recent doctoral degree or medical residency – whichever date is later – within the past 5 years (time spent in medical specialty or subspecialty training is not considered part of medical residency and will be counted against the 5 year window).
-Employees or subcontractors of a U.S. government entity or for-profit private industry are not eligible.
-Any individual who currently holds an active AACR grant may not apply. Past grantees may apply if they complied with all progress and financial report requirements.
-Investigators may submit only one application for the AACR Clinical and Translational Cancer Research Fellowships but may concurrently apply for other AACR grants. However, applicants are expected to accept the first grant they are awarded. Individuals may accept and hold only one AACR grant at a time.
-Investigators currently or previously holding the rank of instructor, adjunct professor, assistant professor, research assistant professor, the equivalent or higher are not eligible. Qualified researchers are invited to apply for an AACR Career Development Award.

Nationality: International students can apply for these fellowships.

College Admission Requirement: Applicants must hold a full-time, mentored research position with the title of postdoctoral fellow, clinical research fellow, or the equivalent.

Supporting Material: Before applicants begin, they will need the following supporting documents to complete the online application.
Documents: A copy of your most recent curriculum vitae and bibliography (Candidates applying for student membership should submit a resume.)
-Nomination: Name and AACR Member Number of a nominator who is an Active, Emeritus or Honorary member in good standing. (Active candidates require TWO nominations). Candidates for Student membership can provide include a school advisor, mentor, dean, or principal. If you are unable to procure a nominator to support your application, please send a request that includes your name, institution, City, State, and Country to membership-at-aacr.org and we will be happy to provide a list of eligible nominators.
-Affiliate and Student Member Candidates Only: Cover letter explaining the reasons for the candidate’s interest in joining, his or her particular qualifications for this membership category, and the benefit(s) he or she expects to derive from becoming a member.
-Affiliate Member Candidates Only: At least one recommendation letter from an Active, Emeritus, or Honorary Member which comments on the candidate’s current research activity, the candidate has within the department, and why the nominator feels the candidate should apply for Affiliate rather than Active or Associate membership.
-Student Member Candidates Only: AACR Student membership is open only to individuals enrolled in high school or undergraduate programs. Graduate level students must apply for AACR Associate membership.
-Payment: Payment of first year’s dues must be submitted with the online application. Credit card information will need to be provided in order to complete the application submission. Membership is free for undergraduate and high school students applying for Student membership.
