Types of Scholarships for Average Students
AXA Achievement Scholarship
Applications are invited for AXA Scholarships from current high school seniors who plan to enroll full-time in an US accredited two-year or four-year college or university. There are two types of scholarships available i.e. AXA Achievementsm Scholarship of $10,000 to fifty-two (52) students and AXA Achievementsm Community Scholarship of $2,500 to more than 300 students. Eligible students are encouraged to apply for both the Achievement and Community scholarships, but a student may receive only one of these AXA-sponsored scholarships.
DeVry College Completer Scholarship
DeVry also offers the College Completer Scholarship; a merit-based award designed specifically for those looking to finish a bachelor’s or associate degree. Applicant could receive up to $18,000 to help you earn your bachelor’s or associate degree.
Create-a-Greeting Card Scholarship
The Create-A-Greeting Card Scholarship Contest is open to currently enrolled high school and college students in the United States. To enter, you must design a holiday, get well, or birthday greeting card and submit your work to be judged. Your photo, art, or graphics submitted must be your own original work and you must be at least 14 years of age to be eligible for this award. Scholarship of $10,000 value will be awarded to the applicant.
American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest
Provided by The American Legion, the National High School Oratorical Contest is open to junior high and high school students who are under the age of 20 and citizens or lawful permanent residents of the United States. Applicant must prepare an oration on some aspect of the U.S. Constitution, with some emphasis on the duties and obligations of citizens to our government. A complete list of topics is available on the Legion’s Web site. Each individual state winner certified into and participating in the first round of the national contest receives an additional $1,500 scholarship.
Ventures Scholars Program
The Ventures Scholars Program is a national membership program designed to help underrepresented and first-generation college-bound students interested in pursuing math- and science-based careers link to information, resources, and opportunities that will help them successfully pursue their career goals. The Program collaborates with colleges, universities, professional associations, and organizations nationwide (VSP Partners) and offers a variety of tools to link students to the partners’ information, resources, and opportunities. The Program also invites parents/guardians and guidance counselors to receive these resources, too!
CKSF Scholarship Competition
Applications are invited for CKSF Scholarship Competition. All U.S. high school, college, and graduate students are eligible (parents can compete, too) are eligible to apply for this scholarship programme. Award amounts range from $250 to $2,500. CKSF scholarship awards may be used at any post-secondary school in the U.S.
AFSA National Scholarship Essay Contest
The AFSA National Scholarship Essay Contest is sponsored by the American Fire Sprinkler Association. The national winner receives a $4,000 scholarship, with second and third place winners receiving $3,000 and $2,000 scholarships. The four remaining regional winners each receive $1,000 scholarships. Information is available starting in the fall. The deadline is in early January.
Akademos / TextbookX.com Scholarship Contest
Akademos Inc. offers spring and fall scholarship essay contests to help publicize the TextbookX.com web site, a source of new and used textbooks. The contest is open to undergraduate and graduate students. The grand prize winner receives $2,000, and two runners-up receive $250 gift certificates for TextbookX.com. The fall deadline is October 31. The spring deadline is April 30.
Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Competition
The Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Competition is sponsored by the US Department of the Interior, US Fish and Wildlife Service. Students in grades K-12 may submit a drawing, painting or sketch of any North American waterfowl species. Each state, territory or district has its own competition, with the “Best of Show” winners submitted to the national competition. One of the 53 Best of Show images will be selected as the next Junior Duck Stamp. The national awards include a first place $5,000 cash award, a second place $3,000 cash award, and a third place $2,000 cash award. The contest is open to US citizens, resident aliens and nationals. The deadline is March 15.
Voice of Democracy Essay Contest
The Voice of Democracy Essay Contest is sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW). The audio essay contest is open to high school students in grades 9-12. The first-place national winner receives a $25,000 scholarship. The essay topics always involve a patriotic theme. The deadline is November 1.
Vegetarian Resource Group Scholarship
The Vegetarian Resource Group (VRG) offers two $5,000 scholarships each year to graduating US high school seniors who have promoted vegetarianism in their schools and communities. The application requires an essay about how the applicant promoted vegetarianism in their high school or community. The deadline is February 20.
MoneyMatters101.com Scholarships
The MoneyMatters101.com scholarship involves an essay on a financial theme. It is open to college freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors attending college in the US or Canada. A GPA of 2.3 or higher is required. One $300 scholarship will be awarded. The deadline is August 31.
Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest
The Holocaust Remembrance Project Essay Contest is designed to encourage and promote the study of the Holocaust. Ten first place winners receive an all-expense-paid trip to Washington DC to visit the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and scholarships of $1,000 to $5,000. The contest is open to all residents of the United States and Mexico, and also to US Citizens living abroad. Candidates should be enrolled in high school (grades 9-12) and age 19 or younger. The deadline is April 15.
