The University of Essex is inviting applications for Essex International Visiting Fellowships for high performing, established academics and researchers. Essex International Visiting Fellowships are open to researchers based outside the United Kingdom, who have a sustained track record of significant output, as demonstrated in the peer-reviewed literature, and a strong commitment to quality research outputs.
These fellowships provide support for outstanding researchers to undertake a period of research at the University of Essex, that is of major importance in its field and of significant benefit to Essex’s research.
The University of Essex is a British public research university in Colchester, Essex. It was established in 1963 and received its Royal Charter in 1965.
The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.
Course Level: Fellowships are available to undertake a period of research at the University of Essex
Study Subject: This is a short-stay international visiting fellowship programme.
Scholarship Award: An Essex International Visiting Fellowship includes:
- Economy travel for the Visiting Fellow (return journey)
- Self-catering accommodation, including the cost of utilities
- A contribution to subsistence (£100 per week)
Scholarship can be taken in the UK
Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following guidelines:
- Essex International Visiting Fellowships are open to researchers based outside the United Kingdom, who have a sustained track record of significant output, as demonstrated in the peer-reviewed literature, and a strong commitment to quality research outputs. Ph.D. students and post-doctoral students are not eligible for the scheme.
- International Visiting Fellows applications must be supported by a senior Essex academic and during their visit it is expected that the Fellow(s) will contribute to the wider activity of the University, engaging with a wide cross-section of the research community.
- Please keep in mind that the International Visiting Fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis. For the academic year 2016-17, we have six fellowships available.
Nationality: International applicants can apply for these fellowships.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirement: Applicants who have a sustained track record of significant output, as demonstrated in the peer-reviewed literature, and a strong commitment to quality research outputs can apply.
Test Requirement: No
English Language Requirement: The candidate should have a very good command over the English language.
How to Apply: During the stay, it is anticipated that applicant will contribute to a number of activities. When they apply, they should, therefore, identify events and activities they that will contribute to during their stay. The programme of events should aim to incorporate some of the following:
- Presentation of core research to a targeted audience
- Research and/or training event targeted at Ph.D. students and early career scholars
- Exploration of further collaborative opportunities with groups/individuals
- A public event
- The interdisciplinary activity aimed at an audience beyond your immediate field of specialism, eg lecture, performance, exhibition, seminar, workshop
Application Deadline: Applications are invited three times a year and should be submitted by midday (12pm) on the day of the deadline:
- 31 July 2016 for visits from September to December 2016
- 30 November 2016 for visits from January to April 2017
- 31 March 2017 for visits from May to August 2017
